The Daisy Project
The Daisy Project, a full-length manikin community bead art project to focus awareness on issues of women’s cancers, was first sponsored by Isadora’s Wonderful Things Beads on South Main in Joplin Mo. She was donated by the Ozark Area Girl Scout Council.
Daisy is being covered completely with beads, including names of cancer survivors and victims as a memorial and symbol of courage in the face of these deadly diseases. Once completed, she will be auctioned, all proceeds going to local charitable organizations involved in the fight against women’s cancers.
After 10 years, Daisy is nearly 90% covered with names of loved ones beaded in memory and prayer, with more than 300 names embellishing her. Daisy herself is named for Juliette “Daisy” Low, founder of Girl Scouts, who died of breast cancer. Women’s cancers show no mercy, know no boundaries, respect no age, position, fame, power or wealth. It is a sisterhood that no woman wants to join.
