Land Listening on Spot Loan. On this hill in 1661 Elspeth Yester, Margaret Moffatt, Margaret Elleot, Margaret Nisbet, George Watson and James Jonstoun were burned as witches. Many indigenous and ancient cultures believe trees hold memories and are linked to their ancestors. Including Māori and the Celts. I spent time with a few trees old trees there. Many dying and being hollowed out leaving holes to peer through making me think of the myth of hag stones and being able to see an alternate world through them. What if we could imagine an alternate world where women were not singled out and persecuted for not conforming to a particular standard.
