Sveda (स्वेद) in Ayurveda refers to perspiration or sweat, which is one of the three essential malas (waste products) alongside urine and f***s that must be properly eliminated for optimal health. This vital physiological process plays a crucial role in temperature regulation, detoxification, and maintaining doshic balance throughout the body. When sveda is produced in appropriate quantities, it indicates healthy agni (digestive fire) and proper metabolic function, while imbalanced sweating signals dosha disturbances requiring therapeutic intervention. In Ayurvedic treatment, controlled sweating through swedana therapy is employed both as a preparatory procedure for panchakarma and as a standalone treatment to eliminate ama (toxins) and restore constitutional equilibrium.
