Some claim oatmeal is really bad for you due to it's causing blood sugar spikes, but in reality, it totally depends on how you prepare it.
Yes, avoid instant oats, or eating it plain with sugar.
But, prepared correctly, it has SO MANY HEALTH BENEFITS!
♡ It can actually regulate blood sugar! It's high in fiber, it's good for heart health, digestive health, and is nutrient rich.
Below a simple way to prepare an oatmeal bowl the right way:
• use whole grain oats, soak them overnight in double the water, or before prepping the oatmeal, in boiled water for 10 min. This helps digestibility.
• per bowl add about 4 heaped tablespoons of soaked oats.
• add a good protein, like yoghurt, cow or soy milk, depending on your preference and how you like the consistency
• add some peanut or almond butter for healthy fats and complimenting the protein. Don't use more than 1 tablespoon.
• do not under any circumstances add any sugar! Instead, add a pinch of sea salt. Yes, you read that right! Sea salt not only adds minerals, but it enhances flavor!
• add a handful of any fresh fruit for sweetness.
•mix it all well
• top it with your favorite nuts, unsweetened granola and berries or some chia seeds.
• Extra tip: for added benefit, add some cinnamon powder on top, or even into the oats, which also helps with balancing blood sugar, is good for heart health, is a good antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory benefits.
