The pain and trauma you experienced is not your identity. It’s a part of your unique story. One of the first steps to healing is re-creating your identity after the trauma- your identity is survivor, healer, conqueror.

It may take a while before you fully feel this as true for your life and that’s ok! Just because it doesn’t feel real at first doesn’t mean it’s not real.

Healing takes time and recreating an identity is hard work.

When we speak of growth, we speak of advancement, expansion, maturation, blooming, and rising beyond our current state. We know growth is not confined to physical changes.

Our personal development and growth (mental, emotional & spiritual) often take shape during unexpected journeys and the experiences we must deal with when we find ourselves during tough predicaments. These can make us question our determination and test our perseverance.

To grow, we must fight the tug of war between:

a.) Maintaining the status quo (our current comfort level), and;

b.) Daring to search for that pot of gold that awaits at the end of the rainbow.

Those who condemn you are locked in their limited beliefs and terrified of their own bigness. That magic that was awake within them when they were kids has been stuffed deep into their darkest nature through life's trials and corresponding traumas.

And so they know not what they do.

Their criticism is awesome soil within which to grow your faith in yourself. And your ironclad trust in your finest instincts.

Bless them Rather than curse them. For they are helping your rise.

Better days are ahead. It'll be messy for a while. Then the clouds will part. Use this time to strengthen yourself so that when things stabilize, your finest self shines.

Our positive experiences in recovery can help us come to believe in a loving God of our own understanding. We've been given relief from a disease that afflicted up for a long time. When we find the guidance & support we need to develop a new way of life, we begin to experience a fullness of spirit where once there was only emptiness.

This aspect of our recovery has its source in a loving God, not a harsh, hateful one. And the more we experience recovery, the more we'll trust that loving Higher Power.

Most people know firsthand that sleep affects their mental state. After all, there’s a reason it’s said that someone in a bad mood “woke up on the wrong side of the bed.”

As it turns out, there’s quite a bit of truth behind this colloquial saying. Sleep is closely connected to mental and emotional health and has demonstrated links to depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and other conditions.

Both sleep and mental health are complex issues affected by a multitude of factors, but, given their close association, there is strong reason to believe that improving sleep can have a beneficial impact on mental health and can be a component of treating many psychiatric disorders.

A common cause of sleeping problems is poor sleep hygeine. Stepping up sleep hygiene by cultivating habits and a bedroom setting that is conducive to sleep can go a long way in reducing sleep disruptions.

The best way to stop worrying about things you can't control is to shift your focus onto things you can control.

If you're feeling anxious today, sit down and write a list of all the things you're worried about that you can actually do something about. What practical steps can you take to resolve them?

There's a lot we can't control in this crazy world, but we can control the way we react to it, the way we care for ourselves and the people we love as we move through it, and how much information we choose to consume.

You have a lot more control over your life than you think you do. You just have to shift your perspective.
