Are you currently displaced or know someone who is looking for housing? The federal government requires ERAP applicants to have a lease (written or verbal). If you do NOT have a lease (for example, you are currently homeless, living at a homeless shelter, living with friends or family, couch surfing, living doubled-up, etc.), you can still apply to the ERAP for help. If you are otherwise eligible, the ERAP will issue a "letter of intent" to you. This letter lets landlords know that you are eligible for payment of:
• Security deposit, not to exceed one month’s rent
• First 3 months of rent, not to exceed the fair market value for the size and county location of the rental unit, as published by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
• Potential additional rental assistance up to a total of 18 months, pending future eligibility determinations
Once a signed lease agreement is obtained, it can be uploaded into the system either by the renter or the landlord when they submit their application.
