Playing catch with Pa!
Things have been a little rough around here lately. Between having to put down mom and dads beloved furball Forrest and living with a bunch of people who have to resume some what of a normal routine and eat it has been hard and discouraging to dad. We've had good days and bad days. Its a lot on everyone. Tube feeds, meds 4 times a day through his feeding tube, blood sugar checks, IV meds, labs twice a week, a home health nurse, Cardiology, primary care, and in the upcoming week an xray to see how things are progressing, an appointment with infectious disease (the doctor managing dad's Iv antibiotics), and then the liver team next week. We are all on this journey together.
Tomorrow I (Courtney) go back to work since being off since the transplant date ( June 10th). Was never my plan, but I feel grateful to have had this time to be around to help both mom and dad. It makes me a little anxious ( I know they have it handled, but still a little scary letting go with my type A nurse brain).
Through all of the challenges it is sometimes difficult to be grateful. But opportunities like these, watching Dad and Kaysen play football, remind me of how eternally grateful I am to his liver donor. My kids would have missed so much of their Pa had this man and his family not given us this invaluable gift.. We will keep fighting and he will get better, because he and that liver have a lot of living left to do!
This is what being dad's personal nurses at home has us taking care of. Plus tube feeding, insulin, drain emptying and IV antibiotics.
Waiting in the traffic circle to pick dad up now. All of his medications are arranged. It's going to take us a while to get the hang of the crazy regimen, but we will do it. We are happy to have him coming home and hopeful for no more hospital stays. The doctors seem very positive things will heal, but say it will take quite some time.
