new year spread 🔮
now that exams and the holidays are over I get to start practicing new spreads for the new year!
This one is by: www.newagehipster.co
At a glance, this spread is shouting for motion. The entire wand family is occupying the higher spots, asking for precedence. The knight cautions us to not get carried away by our action. Sometimes being too focused on a single point can be a detriment, and occasionally we need to humble ourselves and slow down. The King is the structure that keeps the boisterous Knight in check, reminding us that order exists for a reason. The Queen comes in with her earth energy to round out the haste of the Knight and the rigidity of the King. She brings the joy in our forward motion, reminding us to look around once in a while and appreciate the fruits of our tireless labour.
In the last year, the cards remind me of the learning we’ve done. My higher teachings this year have been to let go, and re-prioritize. I have been blessed with a Knight of pentacles attitude in both myself, and my husband. This year we have depended on each other for a steady kind of love and care. This year, I’ve been able to see what a marriage is about, and it’s been exquisitely beautiful work. Seeing a spark of the growth that can happen when we work together has given me so much confidence for years to come.
Judgment came through as the theme for this new year for me. My favourite card, because I’ve grown to love illuminating dark corners. The death of a loved one this year has made me rejoice in opening doors, fearlessly facing what’s inside. Forgiving others doesn’t mean ignoring what they’ve done with placidity. Forgiveness is an active process by which two people must be fully engaged in to work. Otherwise, keep yourself safe. Life is too short.
The Ace of Swords and the eight of Swords here are a seemingly incompatible duo, until we consider them closer. The ace, or magician, of the sword suit is big and expansive. It’s cutting away the tunnel of your mind so you can see the stars, but how does one achieve that when one is feeling trapped in a negative loop of the mind? Well, we can stop making assumptions for once. The eight of swords is a challenge for me, seeing the swords pointing at each other looks like a cage to me, but the ace of swords provides a stunning key. Question your truths, question your narratives, and watch your mind expand. The grooves become deep in our brain matter, the patterns between neurons strengthen over our lives, and we become so used to familiarity in our pattern of thinking. A good mental exercise is to go over that pattern every now and then, to ask bigger questions, the before and after, to consider it from a different angle. Clarity.
Taken together, this new year spread is challenging, uplifting, and I’m very excited to see what 2020 will bring to me and my loved ones 🖤
