Almost at her one year anniversary (Feb 25) and her appointment this week was really good. Still need to get that cadaver nerve fully functioning.
Next up, meeting with a local dentist to discuss a partial to replace those 5 teeth she lost. She is only eating on one side and that’s not going to last her another 60 years!
Permanent implants are an option but this girl ain’t interested in any cutting or drilling into her jaw just yet!

First follow up appointment went well. Everything is looking good and healing nicely. She still has some swelling and some hard places on her jaw but that is normal. Back again in 10 days.

Well there was absolutely no swelling while at the hospital! Not too worried yet. She is eating better today, loves smoothies and frappes. Hip is still very sore but she can sit up and get around on her own.

😇 We are packing up and heading home!! She is still very sore and still on an all liquid diet. But apparently her progress is checking all of the boxes ✅ so regardless of how you feel, out you go 🥾 Thank you for all of the prayers and please continue them to ensure no infections, nerve corruption or fracturing of that donor hip! 🙏

Late night X-ray was much more jostling around than any of us liked! But they wanted it done tonight to ensure a more speedy discharge tomorrow. Ugh she is definitely struggling just sitting up and not looking forward to an early release. Pray she can find a comfortable position tonight to get some sleep. Thankfully they took bone from the hip on the same side as her jaw incision so maybe she can sleep on her right side. 💕

Fully awake now. Last hour has been zero fun for her but pain meds are finally taking off the edge a bit. Tough to get comfortable with the hip. Throat is terribly dry and swallowing isn’t happening without pain. But she did get up and use the restroom so that’s progress.

Out of surgery and recovery and now in her room. Poor thing is in so much pain both in her jaw & hip

Ready for this next surgery to be finished but also terrified. Always smiling even in her fear ❤️ ☀️ 🙏

One more week for surgery #2 💜

12/07/2023

Bone graft surgery is scheduled for Monday, September 18!

20/06/2023

Todays follow up appointment went very well. Everything is healing as it should so we are now booking for the second surgery. Should be in the next two months. Bone graft from her hip bone!
Potential issues: hip bone could have a future break, current cadaver nerve in jaw could get corrupted and die, bone graft could become infected! But she is young and heals well and they are confident everything will go smoothly.
Minimum one night stay but more likely two nights in the hospital.
Thanks for your continued prayers!! 🙏

Swelling is finally almost all gone. She still has numbness and limited mobility in her lip due to the cadaver nerve they put in isn’t fully functional yet. Could take another month for that to be 100%.
She isn’t able to open her mouth completely but they gave her excercises to work on that. She has a tight spot on the scar and has ointments to help reduce that and any scaring.
The stitches are almost all gone both inside and outside and she is eating really well and gained back some of the weight she lost during the surgery.

In this picture you can see the rod they inserted.

Now that is a beautiful site. Almost no bruising and swelling is already going down quite a bit. ❤️
