Maria Cyndi, a paraplegic woman fed up with the poor s*xual representation of disabled women, launched her blog Paraplegic Passion in July 2023.

To maintain her privacy, Maria Cyndi doesn’t blog under her surname or share photos of herself. Yet she says she feels like a mermaid when covering paraplegic passion.

“They are beautiful, often portrayed as topless, s*xy, sensual, seductive and feminine,” she says. “The fishtail relates to my feelings about my legs. Being in water can often give people with paraplegia freedom and mobility.”

We interviewed Maria Cyndi about her experience as a paraplegic woman in s*x, love, and life. She delves into disrupting stereotypes about s*xuality and disability, and what motivates her to blog.

Proloquo2Go is a communication app designed to help people who are non verbal and is used by some people with autism or cerebral palsy to communicate more effectively.

Proloquo2Go provides text-to-speech and symbol-based communication support for individuals with speech and language impairments. The app allows users to create and customize their own virtual communication boards, using text, symbols, or both, to represent the words and phrases they want to communicate. The app can then read out the selected words or phrases using a computer-generated voice, allowing the user to communicate their thoughts and needs more effectively.

You can also use Proloquo2Go for s*x education thanks to customization options that allow users to add s*x education or explicit symbols. Starting with Proloquo2Go 7.7, symbols for genitalia, s*xuality, and intimacy have been included in the symbol library. However, these symbols will not appear on any button in the vocabulary unless you manually add them.

AAC technology for s*x education and intimacy

Proloquo2Go is a type of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) technology. AAC refers to a range of tools and strategies that can be used to support individuals who have difficulty communicating verbally. These tools can include communication boards, picture or symbol-based systems, and speech-generating devices, among others.

Donnie TC Denome, MPH, is an autistic AAC user as well as a writer, designer, and s*x educator. They use Proloquo2Go and Proloquo4Text on a daily basis. On their blog, they shared more of their experience using Prologquo2Go for s*x education and intimacy. They also share information about other AAC options and their limited use for s*xual health or intimacy scenarios.

By providing a way for individuals to communicate their thoughts and needs, AAC technologies like Proloquo2Go can help to improve their quality of life and enhance their ability to participate in daily activities.

You can also use Proloquo2Go for s*x education thanks to customization options that allow for explicit symbols.

“S*x Education” is a British coming-of-age comedy-drama web television series created by Laurie Nunn. It launched on Netflix in January 2019. The series is set in the fictional town of Moordale Secondary School and follows the story of Otis Milburn, a socially awkward high school student who lives with his s*x therapist mother. He teams up with fellow student Maeve Wiley to set up an underground s*x therapy clinic at school to help their classmates with their s*xual problems.

The show covers a wide range of themes and topics related to s*xual education such as s*xual identity, consent, relationships, and s*xual health. It also deals with the difficulties of being a teenager, such as bullying, self-esteem, and mental health. In season 2, we meet disabled wheelchair Isaac, who falls for and develops and intimate relationship with Maeve.

The character of Isaac Goodwin in Netflix’s “S*x Education” uses a wheelchair after becoming paralyzed during a fall during childhood. Isaac first appeared in season 2, episode 1, a casting choice that also made him the first disabled character to appear in the series.

Maeve and Isaac develop a friendship that builds into a romantic relationship in “S*x Education. Before that happens, Maeve first spots Isaac as he’s moving into a trailer in the same caravan park, making them neighbors. Their first meeting gets off to a bad start after Maeve asks Isaac, who uses a wheelchair, if he wants any help moving his belongings inside. Isaac responds in an offended tone saying he didn’t ask for any help, so no. His brother then introduces himself and Isaac, to which Maeve responds “I’m Maeve and I don’t like noise.”

Maeve and Isaav eventually bond over how they were both abandoned by their parents as children. Later seeing Maeve’s friend Otis as a s*xual threat, Isaac deletes a voicemail sent to her by Otis declaring his love for Maeve in season 2, episode 8. When Isaac eventually confesses what he did to Maeve, she takes it as a betrayal.

The erotic climax of Maeve and Isaac’s s*xual relationship happens in season 3, episode 4. The intimate disabled s*x scene can be streamed on Netflix.

Is Isaac from S*x Education actually disabled?

George Robinson is a British actor who is best known for his role as Isaac Goodwin, the first disabled character to appear in the Netflix series “S*x Education.” He was born in 1997.

According to the IMDb page of George Robinson, the actor who plays Isaac Goodwin in S*x Education, was paralyzed at 17 years old during a school rugby match in South Africa in 2015.

He grew up in Cambridgeshire and has put his undergraduate Philopshy studies on hold after landing the role of Isaac in “S*x Education.”

Many people wonder if the actor who plays Isaac Goodwin uses a wheelchair in real life. As the importance of representation in the disability community receives more attention, casting able-bodied actors in the roles of disabled characters is often frowned upon. One reason is that it robs actors with disabilities of the chance to play such roles, of which there are relatively few compared to those available to able-bodied actors.

In Australia, the government-run National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds certain costs related to disability, including assistive s*x aids and s*x toys. Relatively new, the NDIS went into full operation in 2020 after being legislated in 2013.

According to the government, in order to be eligible, someone must have a disability due to a permanent impairment.

Here I will specifically share details on Australian s*x toy companies that assist customers in claiming back the cost of their s*x toys using NDIS funding.

On my main site S*xForEveryBody.com, I shared an article on how disabled individuals can claim the cost of s*x aids in different countries.

ZIGGY sit-on s*x toy

The sit-on s*x toy The ZIGGY from s*xual wellness company LUDDI is designed for all bodies. It is a multi-use and even bendable s*x toy with a charging station that LUDDI says is accessible as well as easy to use and store.

It has braille on the buttons and is 100% waterproof, made from medical-grade silicone.

In terms of multi-use, the Ziggy first presents itself as a rideable s*x toy you can sit on. In this form, it is similar to ORION’s vibe pad that it can turn any chair into a hands-free s*x toy.

But you can also bend the s*x toy so it could curve and warp around a phallus. LUDDI also suggests you can tuck it into a harness or underwear, put it between two bodies, stroke your p***s with it, or hump and rub on it.

LUDDI provides an NDIS s*x toy FAQ page on how you can claim s*xual wellness devices as assistive technology.

XES Products

Online s*xual wellness store XES Products explains that many of its s*x aids for disabilities qualify for purchase under the NDIS Low Cost Assistive Technology budget.

For more specific information, visit the NDIS s*x aids purchasing info page on the XES Products website. It shares instructions on two different options for getting reimbursed, one for plan-managed and self-managed.

XES Products sells assistive s*x aids and pleasure products from several brands

The online s*x shop is managed by a Sydney couple with experience in rehabilitation and occupational therapy.

Bump’n Joystick

The Bump’n Joystick is designed for p***s strokers and v***a s*x toys, with two different s*x toy mount options on each side.

The s*x and disability company Bump’n is still taking pre-orders for its huggable, meter-long s*x pillow. The Bump’n Joystick is expected to begin shipping in Spring 2023.

Co-founder Andrew Gurza, a man living with cerebral palsy, created the full-body s*x toy pillow for people like him who have limited hand dexterity. This hands-free, huggable Bump’n Joystick is one meter long. The top section is made of memory foam. The bottom section has two different s*x toy mount options, meant to work for various styles of v***a s*x toys and p***s strokers.

The two haves can separate for easy storage and cleaning.

On its website, Bump’n shares information on NDIS s*x toy funding and an order form for both self- and plan-managed individuals

What is S*xual Ableism?

S*xual ableism is a serious issue that affects people with disabilities and their ability to access information, healthcare, and social acceptance related to their s*xuality. S*xual ableism is often rooted in negative societal attitudes about disabled people and the view they are incapable of having fulfilling s*xual lives.
