The reality: Women’s menstrual cycles can vary in length, typically ranging from 21 to 35 days, with an average of around 28 days. However, the entire cycle, including the follicular and luteal phases, can range from 23-36 days - all completely normal. This year, I promised myself I’d do NY Tech Week differently—fewer events, more intention. Today was one of those days that made that choice feel just right. It was rich, layered, and left me energized in a way only honest conversations and good people can.

The morning started with one of the most thoughtful panels I’ve seen in a while on women’s health innovation. Not just the usual talk—we went deep. Behind every health stat is a lived experience, and for women, those stories have been ignored for far too long. That’s changing.

Hearing from Estelle Giraud, PhD Trellis Health, Dr. Hillary Lin of elevateX, and Naseem Sayani of How Women Invest was genuinely inspiring. These women aren’t just talking about fixing healthcare—they’re building it. With empathy, science, and a serious commitment to giving women the tools to understand their bodies and take control. From generational health infrastructure to AI-powered longevity and investing in companies that actually reflect how women live—it felt like something important was cracking open.

Later in the day, I headed to beautiful NeueHouse for a much more technical but equally fascinating gathering hosted by Anthropic . Imagine a room filled with some of the most thoughtful minds building AI right now, but the vibe was relaxed, open, even warm.

I had the chance to connect with founders like Shiv Rao (Abridge), Merrill Lutsky ( Graphite)—we talked about new ways to manage dev and PR pipeline and Jeff Barg (Clay ) who gave a sneak peek into their upcoming GTM tools. It wasn’t just about Claude or credits—it was about how we’re all quietly shaping something big.

And just when I thought I couldn’t take in more, the day closed with something slower and deeper—a small, closed session hosted by Mucker Capital with Tony Yang, and Amplitude with Oliver Smyth and Arlyn Goldstein , focused on how AI startups are solving real problems, not just chasing hype.

Hearing from Dan Cleary (PromptHub), Rock W. Vitale, PMP (Easie ), and Zhou Yu (Arklex), with Aahad Patel moderating, was refreshing. Honest stories of trial, error, and unexpected wins. Real talk from real builders.

So yeah, not a whirlwind kind of NYTW day. But a meaningful one. The kind where you walk away not just with names and notes—but with new questions, ideas, and maybe even a little more courage to build the thing you keep dreaming about.

I’ve been saying it for years: soft drinks are liquid sugar—and a recipe for type 2 diabetes. Long before the research caught up, I was already flagging this in my food analysis database with a dedicated category: Liquid Sugar.

Now, yet another major study backs this up. Researchers from Brigham Young University, alongside teams in Germany, analyzed 29 global studies and found:

👉 There is no safe level of sugar-sweetened beverage consumption when it comes to diabetes risk.
👉 Sugars in solid foods, especially when part of a balanced diet, may actually reduce the risk.

Yes, you read that right—it's not about fearing all sugar. It’s about context and form.

So next time you crave something sweet, you're better off with real cane sugar or any natural sugar in whole foods—not a soda or fruit drink. And of course , the best choice will be fruits for sugar cravings and plain water.

The takeaway? The body doesn’t respond the same way to sugar in a drink vs. sugar in a meal. Sweetened drinks hit fast, spike blood sugar, and fuel insulin resistance.

I've been ahead on this, and my database reflects it. Glad to see science catching up.

This new, large meta-study is the work of researchers at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, in collaboration with colleagues at Paderborn University and the University of Freiburg in Germany.

The researchers included in their analysis the findings of 29 studies conducted in Europe, the United States, Asia, Australia, and Latin America.

The study is published in the journal Advances in Nutrition.

From acne and dryness to wrinkles and sun damage, our skin reflects how we care for ourselves, what we put in our bodies, and how well we manage stress. 🧴 But skin health is also influenced by hormones, genetics, and age, especially for women.
