Who’s in? 🙌

Every year leading up to Halloween, my kids start reminding me about all the things we HAVEN’T done to celebrate the holiday. We missed visiting the pumpkin patch this year and will barely scrape together half-decent costumes. 🤪

They especially like to highlight the fact that our decorations are scarce and NOT scary. 🤷‍♀️

I feel an instinctive pang of guilt each time they bring one of these deficiencies up. I’m their mom. I WANT to give them everything.

But then I’d remind them—and myself—that no one can do it all. And that’s 100 percent okay.

Every year, Halloween comes, and they still throw costumes on and experience the magic. They still eat more candy than could ever be considered reasonable and fall asleep with smudges of makeup and paint left on their faces.

You don’t have to do it ALL to make the holidays magical. ❤️ It’s about choosing the few things you care about most and soaking them in rather than rushing through them.

And in order to do that, we’re all going to have to say no. 👊 No to our own expectations. No to others’ expectations OF us. No to the things that drain us, and a deliberate yes to the very best things—the things that fill us up.
