Initiation isn’t a scary word and it doesn't automatically mean you're a priestess or priest. To initiate simply means to begin, to commence. Initiation orients your soul to its highest path. It activates your ancestral connection, grants you spiritual authority to conjure, and it helps to purify your soul. African life is highly initiatory especially on terms of rites of passage, which prepare individuals for adolescence, adulthood, parenthood, marriage, etc. Spiritually, we believe that all devotees and practitioners must undergo some form of initiation (see the post), whether formally or informally. Again initiation doesn't automatically mean priestess or priest, but it is meant to bring you into alignment with your highest ideal.

For many of us, our generational “curse” is avoidance. We come from people who just act like “it” didn’t/doesn’t happen. But pain demands to be felt. And somewhere along the line, a child will be born whose charge it is to feel it all. These are your shamans, your medicine women and men, your priests and priestesses, your healers. You call them mental health patients and label their power as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and the like. But these are the ones who are born with the gift of Feeling. And as we all know, you can’t heal the pain that you refuse to feel.

In many traditions, the moon represents the feminine, while the sun represents the masculine. Together, they create harmony.

An average moon cycle lasts around 29 days, just like the average time it takes a woman to complete a whole menstrual cycle.

There are four main phases of each, which correspond to one another. This is what a typical menstrual cycle might look like and how it links to the phases of the moon:

Menstruation phase (New moon)
Pre-ovulation/follicular phase (Waxing moon)
Ovulation phase (Full moon)
Pre-menstrual phase/Luteal (Waning moon)

*If you bleed during a different phase of the moon, adjust your cycle accordingly.*

In ancient times, a woman’s cycle was honored and celebrated, while her bleeding phase was ritualized in ceremony and through rites of passage. Women of all ages came together in sacred circles and moon lodges. Getting your moon (period) was seen as a beautiful gift.

But the present power structure felt threatened by the power and magic that these women held within, which only magnified when they came together. So what was once seen as beautiful and pure became stigmatized and seen as taboo and dirty.

Women around the world today see their period as a hassle, a burden, and sometimes even a curse. Our sacred cycle has been belittled to no more than a means to reproduce.

The blood we shed is holy and living and life-giving. Our sacred blood is the primordial waters from which all human life springs. Our womb blood carries the genetic markers of our ancestry - mitochondrial DNA. Our ancestral mothers would gather in tents to pray and bleed into the ground to ensure a good harvest season. A bleeding woman is especially sensitive to the whispers of the cosmos. This is the power of our Moon Time.

This may trigger you, but that's the nature of healing.
Breathe and prepare to enter into the inner sanctum of your wounded soul.
That's the only way you can heal.
Breathe deeply and allow the tears to exit your body.
Breathe as you engage with this content.
It will trigger your emotions.
Breathe and confront them with courage.
Breathe, beloved.
Don't hold it in.
Exhale so you can breathe.
Breathe and let the light in

Greetings Holy One,

I know you're busy with your life, and I want to honor that 🥳. At the same time, there is a wound you've been carrying that needs to be addressed so it can heal.

Spirit has released me to offer you access to Ukwenyuka: Divine Feminine Rites of Ascension, designed for trauma survivors. It's a little less demanding than traditional initiation practices, which usually require that you leave home for training.

This is a guided first step in your journey towards holistic wellness after trauma. Ukwenyuka was designed especially with Afro-Indigenous, q***r, female trauma survivors, ages 14+, in mind; although all who are called to heal are welcome. This makes our program unique, even among other healing programs.

1 in 4 Black girls will be sexually abused before the age of 18. Black girls and women 12 years and older experienced higher rates of r**e and sexual assault than White, Asian, and Latina girls and women from 2005-2010. 30% of Black women with documented histories of childhood sexual abuse were sexually assaulted in adulthood. The statistics for q***r women are even higher.*

Ukwenyuka offers a disruption to this troubling cycle of abuse. This shamanic rite of ascension is designed equip young women affected by trauma with the appropriate tools to heal, recover, and thrive. Ukwenyuka breaks down, in easy to understand terms, a traditional, culturally-relevant path to holistic healing. Ukwenyuka combines the African American spiritual tradition of Hoodoo with other ancestral healing modalities to create a one-of-a-kind ascension experience.

Healing after trauma takes time, effort, patience, compassion, and tons of support. Survivors of s*xual, womb, and birth trauma and their ancestors deserve to receive healing and aftercare: Body, Soul, and Spirit!

This will satisfy your ancestors for the time being, and will prepare you for further initiation, if you are so called. There are three cohorts and each one is priced at $600, payable in installments, if necessary. You'll receive certificates of completion as well as a Medicine Woman toolkit once you complete the program.

The Maiden Cohort begins in July.
