Harm Reduction is all about saving lives. It could also be a gateway to recovery.

If you choose to use substances, please do it safely. Never use alone or let someone you trust be aware of what you're doing so someone can help you in case of an accidental overdose. Download the LifeGuard App, have a Naloxone kit available, and test your substances for fentanyl content.

It is also advised not to share paraphernalia to reduce the risks of transmitting blood-borne diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis C.

Harm Reduction sites in Fort Nelson include the Friendship Centre, the Northern Health Unit, and Riggs Safety. Both FNFN and PRFN also have their harm reduction services.

Please reach out to the site of your choice if you need harm reduction services. Every life is worth saving regardless of life choices and recovery would not be possible if the person is dead. Everyone's life matters.

IOAD 2024: Together We Can.

We invite everyone who lost a loved one to overdose to write your loved one's name on a purple ribbon sticker and put it on the tree of life. The tree of life will be up from August 19th - August 31st.

Then, on August 28th, Wednesday at 12nn, please come join us at the Friendship Centre for a candlelight vigil followed by a meal.

The FNFN Community is also hosting an Overdose Awareness event on August 30th, Friday, from 11am - 2pm. Please support both events.

International Overdose Awareness Day is being observed yearly on August 31st to remember those lives lost to overdose and to spread awareness. The theme this year is: Together We Can.

Hi Folks!

Naloxone reverses the effects of Opioids (ex. Fentanyl) in the body in case of an accidental overdose. It is safe to use and it's good to have it readily available at all times. To know more about it, please come and meet the Outreach Team on Wednesday, June 26th at the Community Walking Trail for a Naloxone Administration Training. There are some updates to it worth learning.

If you encounter someone overdosing, or overamping, please don't hesitate to call 911 and stay with the person. Assess for signs of Opioid overdose then administer Naloxone if you have and stay until help arrives. There is the "good samaritan act " which provides some legal protection for individuals who seek emergency help during an overdose. To know more about it, visit: https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/opioids/about-good-samaritan-drug-overdose-act.html?utm_campaign=hc-sc-opioids-24-25&utm_medium=sem&utm_source=ggl&utm_content=ad-text-en&utm_term=good%20samaritan%20act&adv=2425-586150&id_campaign=21345135595&id_source=166880349270&id_content=700954873116&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7vC4kYHrhgMVYB6tBh1d-wQkEAAYASAAEgIAr_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
