The NYPD Community Affairs Annual Sleigh Ride Partners with Hip Hop Pioneers T-Money, Doctor Dré and Ed Lover (of MTV’s iconic YO! MTV Raps) to Deliver Gifts and Holiday Cheer Throughout New York City in Anticipation of the City of New York’s Celebrations for the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop in 2023
NEW YORK, Dec. 20, 2022 -- The New York Police Department Community Affairs Bureau is proud to announce the return of its Annual Community Affairs Sleigh Ride, featuring special VIP guests, Hip Hop legends T-Money and Doctor Dré, who will join the NYPD’s motorcade on Thursday, December 22nd, to distribute gifts and holiday cheer to children and families throughout New York City.
Once again, the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau is mobilizing a fleet of NYPD motorcycles and trucks, filled with toys to bring joy to children in need. The community program was started by Chief Jeffery Maddrey in 2017 and has grown to include all five boroughs in a festive effort to bring community residents together. [QUOTE] “It’s Chief Maddrey’s of Community Affairs signature piece. It’s how we bring cheer and toys out to the communities throughout the city that are in need,” said [Maximo Tolentino], Deputy Chief at Community Affairs Bureau. “We are thrilled to welcome Hip Hop icons T-Money and Doctor Dré as VIP guests on our motorcade. Their contributions to Hip Hop and continued support for our communities is appreciated and sure to bring joy to faces across the city.”
This event is an important symbol of the NYPD's commitment of bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community. The NYPD estimates that it has distributed more than 75,000 toys to children throughout New York City, donated by the New York City Police Foundation, First Responders Children’s Foundation, and donations from everyday people.
“We are thrilled to be a part of the spirit of the holidays, and what better way than to distribute presents to kids in neighborhoods all throughout New York City”, said T-Money. “The NYPD is making sure that Christmas reaches those most in need, and so are we,” said Doctor Dré, “and we are honored to have been asked to join them.”
Ed Lover, Doctor Dré and T-Money (of YO! MTV Raps fame) are collaborating on community initiatives related to the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop. In addition to NYPD Sleigh Ride, Ed, Dré and T have recently partnered with The Muse Gallery, a Bronx-based non-profit organization founded by Nidia Yvette Franco that promotes youth development through art programs, on a community-focused campaign celebrating Hip Hop throughout all five boroughs.
