What have you been having for Suhoor?!?
I haven’t fasted every day this Ramadan due to pregnancy but I’ve fasted more days than not! Some of these photos were taken on the days I wasn’t fasting (note the sunlight lol) but they’re all meals I’ve repeated before sunrise on the days I was fasting!
You’ll notice patterns in each of these photos:
1. Protein is always prioritized. Whether it’s yogurt, freshly made eggs, premade boiled eggs, or quick smoked salmon and cottage cheese, there is *always* at least 30g of protein
2. Fiber is always present. You’ll see fiber in the form of avocados and fruit most days! Lavash wraps can also be a more convenient way to throw in fiber. I like when my fiber comes paired with water and nutrients (basically berries and kiwi) but there’s nothing wrong with flax, chia, avocado, etc.
3. Healthy fat is not slept on while I’m fasting! It’s always there and not always in small quantities. If I’m in a fat loss phase (or really just not fasting) I’ll have much less fat at one meal than we see in some of these. But due to pregnancy and fasting at the same time, I don’t shy away from healthy fats to keep me satiated. Avocado, seeds, egg yolks, cheese, and smoked salmon are some of the main fat sources here.
4. Flavor & overall satisfaction is the last thing I prioritize but definitely not the least! Just because I’m eating breakfast at 5am doesn’t mean I don’t care if I like it, I do!!
5. Convenience matters when we’re looking at overall consistency of any healthy habits. I have fast, no prep, easy options for the days I’m tired (smoked salmon and yogurt bowls, pre boiled eggs, etc.) and longer options like fresh eggs when I want a hot breakfast and have the energy. You’ll notice there’s not that many variation in ingredients but they’re just made in different ways day after day. That keeps variety without always needing to reinvent the wheel.
