Peace! 🌸
Today we introduce you to baby Dariush 🧒
So, what the rehab sisters do to help little champ?
Part of the spectrum of interventions that rehabilitation professionals provide to a child with neurological disorders like Dariush, include:
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY; as you can see in the picture on the right, Mehtaab is providing 'Joint Compressions and Tactile Input' - a powerful tool used to:
- helps the child know where his body is in his environment; for e.g is my knee straight or flexed? (proprioceptive input)
- calms the child, as it utilizes human touch which has been shown to facilitate the release of Dopamine and Norepinephrine, thus mood regulation, motivation, lowering anxiety levels, and lowering depression (Neurogistics, 2015)
PHYSIOTHERAPY; from the picture on the left, what Aarifah is doing is called 'Chest Physiotherapy' - a set of mechanical techniques that has for benefits:
- helps the child get rid of extra mucus in his lungs
- improves Breathing pattern
- Prevents Lungs infection
- Strengthens Breathing Muscles
From vigorous and consistent therapy of OT and PT, little Dariush is now able to weight bear on 4 point with support, increased postural control, good head control and make use of both his hands.
Important to note that many a time suction had to be done just after Chest Physiotherapy to continue with the OT session of Dariush, due to clear excess secretions coming out.
Disclaimer: the physiotherapy student was under the supervision of a certified physiotherapist during the session
If you have any questions about any of the mentioned interventions, please don't hesitate to DM us; we would be glad to answer them.
