Curran Lifesaving School https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100085907124411 had a fantastic launch of its new Royal Lifesaving Society “Water Smart Award “ yesterday in Newry leisure centre swimming pool

The award which is designed to keep children safe around water.

The RLSS UK’s Water Smart Award sets out a national standard for water safety. It is the essential skill-based programme to ensure safety and competence around water. It is a standalone award and provides a gateway for participants to go on to complete further awards to develop skills and knowledge to keep themselves and others safe whilst enjoying the water.

This award is a first stage introductory step into water safety,and also a great first step to introducing them to water and is suitable for anyone aged 4+.

Curran lifesaving school based in Newry Leisure Center presented Councillor Gavin Malone with a thank-you box of chocolates for assisting the childrens lifesaving school to hire swimming lanes every Sunday morning.

Curran lifesaving school also presented Gavin with 8 £25 kerosene vouchers to be donated to people in need.

Every Sunday morning in Newry Leisure Centre from 11 am until 12midday Our Rookie Lifeguards are training to be lifesavers.
Their training will include water safety skills, self rescue skills, survival skills and lifesaving skills.
This Sunday they will be receiving their RLSS Rookie Lifeguard Progress Books. As they progress through the bronze, silver and gold awards they will be awarded a certificate, a badge and a sticker.

We will be offering Save Survive, Rookie Lifeguard and Junior medic courses.

Rookie Lifeguard - You must be capable of swimming a 25-meter length without stopping and age 8 years and over.
Save Survive Lifesaving course - you must be a competent swimmer and age 12 years and over.
Cost per weekly session is £12 each.
