PMA Sindh Strongly Condemns FIR Lodged Against Doctors of Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad
Jamshoro, October 29, 2025 —
The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Sindh has expressed strong concern and serious resentment over the lodging of an FIR (Section 302) against the doctors of Liaquat University Hospital (LUH), Hyderabad, following the unfortunate death of a patient who was admitted in a critical condition.
According to hospital sources, the patient was diagnosed with dengue fever on 11-10-2025 and had initially received treatment from a private healthcare facility. The patient arrived at Liaquat University Hospital on 19-10-2025 with severe complications,
Despite extremely limited resources, overcrowding, and shortage of staff, all possible medical measures were taken. The concerned consultants, infectious disease specialists, and ICU team were promptly involved. The patient was managed with broad-spectrum antibiotics (Tazobactam and Vancomycin) and placed on ventilatory support. Unfortunately, despite continuous monitoring and counseling of attendants on an hourly basis, the patient could not survive and expired on 22-10-2025.
The medical ward has a capacity of only 30 beds, yet 97 patients were admitted at the time — more than triple its capacity. Similarly, the ICU is also overburdened beyond safe limits. Even with such extreme patient loads, the doctors and staff continue to provide care around the clock with full professional commitment.
On average, more than 16,000 patients visit the OPD daily, and each doctor examines around 300 patients per shift, far exceeding WHO’s recommended standards. Under such overwhelming circumstances, it is humanly impossible to provide individualized care to every single patient within existing infrastructure and manpower constraints.
The PMA Sindh strongly asserts that before any legal action or FIR, there must be a technical and impartial medical inquiry to establish facts. Holding doctors criminally responsible without proper investigation is unjust, demoralizing, and sets a dangerous precedent for the entire medical profession.
Doctors across Sindh are overburdened, overstretched, and yet continue to serve humanity despite systemic challenges. Instead of appreciation, making them easy targets through FIRs will only discourage young doctors from serving in public hospitals.
The PMA calls upon the Chief Minister of Sindh and the Health Department to immediately intervene, withdraw the FIR, and ensure that all medico-legal and disciplinary matters are handled through professional and technical forums, not police stations.
