The almighty squat is in so many workouts for a reason—for many reasons, actually. It's an effective lower-body exercise that works a bunch of muscles at once, including the glutes, quads, and core. You don't need any equipment to do a squat in its most basic form—your weight and gravity give you all the resistance you need—but you can easily add free weights or resistance bands if you want to challenge yourself and continue developing muscle mass and strength. The squat is a very functional exercise, which means it trains a movement pattern that you use in everyday life (you should be squatting when you try to lift something heavy off the floor).

"you're so lucky you look like that, you must have a fast metabolism".

But here's the truth: your *slow* metabolism doesn’t cause you to be fat. Your fat causes your metabolism to be slow.

Okay, let's break it down.

What IS metabolism?

Metabolism is the process by which your body

converts food into energy. Energy is not JUST used to exercise or exude what feels like effort. In fact, our body actually needs energy while at rest too to function properly. The energy to have our organs, hormones, and our autonomic nervous system. Basically all the stuff we're not necessarily THINKING about.

A few things determine this energy such as body shape and size (the larger you are the more calories you burn at rest, the more muscle you have the more calories you burn even at rest), s*x (men have less body fat, therefore are likely to burn more energy), and your age (the older you get the more your muscle tends to decrease).

So What Does This All MEAN?
