This week marks World Breastfeeding Week! As we celebrate, let's take a moment to acknowledge the extraordinary strength of mothers around the world!

Did you know that if your baby is breastfed, you should be supplementing with Vitamin D. A daily 5µg vitamin D-only supplement should be given to breastfed infants (0-12 months) who consume no more than 500ml of formula per day.

1. Not eating enough food with vitamin D: Taking vitamin D supplements and also eating food that contains vitamin D (e.g salmon) is beneficial because you're getting a good amount!

2. Not taking the right amount of IU: Adults (also the elderly and children aged 11-17) should not take more than 100 micrograms (4,000 IU) of vitamin D a day as it could be harmful. Children aged 1 to 10 years should not have more than 50 micrograms (2,000 IU) a day. Infants under 12 months should not have more than 25 micrograms (1,000 IU) a day.
