Ms Lilian Tan, 36, had delayed going for cervical cancer screening until last year, when she decided to go for a full body health screening. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
At her screening, the doctor found that her results were abnormal and referred her to a gynaecologist. After further checks, Ms Tan was diagnosed with cervical cancer at stage 1B1 and underwent treatments. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Today, the mother of two boys said, “I am very thankful to dear family and friends who have supported me through the battle of the illness. My twin boys and husband were my strong motivation to get better each day.”

Dear Future Me, ⁣

It’s hard to believe that so many years have passed. Do you remember how 2020 was a year full of highs and lows? One of the best highlights was definitely starting a new job and having such a warm and welcoming bunch of colleagues. Are you still working in the same company now?⁣

One of the lows would be cancelling my overseas trip with the gals because of the COVID-19 situation. I’m so bummed about that 😞 But it’s okay, we’re planning to have an even bigger one in the future.⁣

I hope by this time you’ve done something incredible. If not, I’m sure you’re in the midst of starting it. Whatever it is, I hope you’re now stronger, wiser and happier than I am now. That’s all that matters ❤️⁣

With lots of love, ⁣
Your Past Self ⁣

PS: You’re due to go for your next cervical cancer screening!⁣

----⁣
Want to send a letter to your future self too? Drop by our roving booth next Thu or Fri! More details coming soon. In 3-5 years, we’ll be mailing out the letters to your future self that you wrote at our roving booths. We can’t wait for you to read them! ✨

At‌ ‌the‌ ‌age‌ ‌of‌ ‌24,‌ ‌Ms‌ ‌Joanne‌ ‌Sim‌ ‌lost‌ ‌her‌ ‌baby.‌ ‌However,‌ ‌it‌ ‌was‌ ‌through‌ ‌this‌ ‌unfortunate‌ ‌incident‌ ‌that‌ ‌her‌ ‌doctor‌ ‌found‌ ‌out‌ ‌that‌ ‌she‌ ‌had‌ ‌a‌ ‌precancerous‌ ‌stage‌ ‌of‌ ‌cervical‌ ‌cancer.‌ ‌Thankfully,‌ ‌because‌ ‌the‌ ‌cancer‌ ‌was‌ ‌detected‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌precancerous‌ ‌stage,‌ ‌Ms‌ ‌Sim‌ ‌went‌ ‌for‌ ‌a‌ ‌surgery‌ ‌and‌ ‌successfully‌ ‌removed‌ ‌the‌ ‌cancerous‌ ‌cells.‌ ‌⁣

This incident became a turning point for Ms Sim, now 40, who goes for annual cervical cancer screening. ⁣

“I want to be here for my son, to watch him grow up; I want to grow old with my two men and my family. That’s why I get myself checked, and take better care of myself,” Ms Sim said.⁣

Hello from SurviGals Screening!

Hello! We are a group of like-minded individuals from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) who are passionate about advocating for women’s health in Singapore.

SurviGals Screening is a non-profit health communications campaign that encourages women aged 25 to 34 years old for regular cervical cancer screening in Singapore.

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the world and the tenth most common cancer in Singapore, with more than 200 new cases diagnosed annually. However, cervical cancer is the most preventable cancer as it can be treated with early detection and intervention.

Thus, together with our partners, we are spearheading SurviGals Screening to raise awareness of cervical cancer screening among women and prompt them to go for screening. Sign up for your cervical cancer screening today: http://bit.ly/SurvigalsScreening
