While emotional experiences can be overwhelming and sometimes wanting a distraction and not flooding yourself with discomfort is okay, accomodating the sensory input builds body safety.

Sometimes I feel tired of feeling the aches in my back that punch in my stomach and sinking feeling in my chest. I feel upset that something someone said , or a thought that crossed my mind took that peace away.
I try to re establish a mind body connection, but the mind just feels it is walking a hundred miles ahead and I can barely catch up.
As I stare into nothingness and just breathe I find my self fixating on what really matters in that moment. A way of my mind to just bring me back. The rest of me, holding space to process the intensity of what I am feeling.
The allowing myself to be okay, probably came from accepting and experiencing not being ok, instead of running away from it or intellectualising it.

During periods of turmoil or an existential crisis, we may look at past memories of relationships with significant others (our identity during that time), Photographs, and mementos as anchors that would keep us ashore. This feels comforting and also grounded, we may think. However, it may be important to ask ourselves whether this is helping us in the here and now or is it keeping us from putting ourselves in novel situations that may be an opportunity for connection, joy, and fulfillment of a different type. Sure we may be different from what we used to be but different is not necessarily bad/negative.
We are still to meet the persons that we will become.
