I'm glad the Governor of the state I live in is aware of the impact of Family Caregivers each year. It's nice to have this official recognition of what we do. It's another thing now to do what needs to be done to improve aid and assistance to family caregivers beyond more facilities and paid caregivers. It is my intention to become more active as a public advocate for all Family Caregivers!
Around 578,000 family caregivers provide an estimated 538 million hours of unpaid care every year in Wisconsin. They act as a loved one's lifeline helping with daily tasks such as eating or bathing and by providing comfort, care, and company.
Caregivers often put the needs of others above their own, so this Family Caregiver Month, I want to recognize Wisconsin's family caregivers for all their hard work and for the sacrifices they make every day to help their loved ones live comfortably and with dignity.
And my commitment to our caregivers goes beyond November. Our Task Force on Caregiving is working diligently to ensure that every caregiver has the supports they need to thrive in our state and to make sure we are building a caregiver workforce for the future.
