Hello, it's Fran. I'm thankful that Kristin shared our good news about the transplant. We were delayed for a month because I tested positive for Covid.
This journey has been amazing, frightening and very humbling.
First of all, please make sure you discuss any possible side effects of your meds with your doctor. My kidneys failed suddenly in 2016 because of prescribed long term use of Prilosec which is used for acid reflux. Cases are rare but damage is most often irreversible.
Secondly, never give up hope. I was uncomfortable with a page asking for a kidney but am so glad Kristin and Christine did it. My donor saw that page. She is a childhood friend and we shared 2 sibling marriages and college memories. The living donor coordinator said she has not met a more motivated donor.
Never take a moment for granted. Recovery will be a long road but I will be better than ever . Thank you for the messages, prayers, love and support that keep me moving in a positive direction.💚

I am extremely happy to share this news... Fran has received her new kidney! Surgery went smoothly, and both she and her donor are both recovering well. Thank you so much for your prayers and well wishes. I know Fran is extremely grateful. ❤

I am so happy and thankful to announce that I have a living donor and surgery scheduled for July! Thank you all for the love, support and messages. I would not have gotten this far without you all! ❤️🌻

Hi, this is Fran. I have received some great news that I am one step away from being accepted onto the kidney waiting list. One medical test needs a follow up, but everything else is good to go. Thank you for the love, support, prayers and messages. ❤️ You've kept me moving in a positive direction. I have not needed dialysis yet and hope to be able to share more good news soon!

FRAN MURPHY NEEDS A KIDNEY

Fran is a familiar face around town because she helps everyone. She worked at the town library until her recent retirement. She has spent countless hours each week at the FPNB making sure that our residents in need had meals on their table every day. It's not uncommon to get a text from Fran asking how you are, or if you need anything. But now she needs us. We need to tell everyone we know, anyone we meet, and some you don't, about this amazing woman. Share in groups you belong to, especially out of town group. We need to reach out to those who may not know Fran. We're building a KIDNEY NETWORK here!!!

💚There comes a time when every kidney patient hears these frightening words "We must make a dialysis plan." Dialysis is an artificial way to eliminate waste and excess fluid from the body - a job usually handled by the kidneys.

💚Fran is beginning her dialysis soon. She will require a couple of procedures to place ports and fistulas. She will sit in a chair several days a week, for several hours each day, having her blood removed, filtered, cleaned, and replaced. It is not a pleasant existence - I know firsthand - but it's what keeps kidney patients alive until a donor can be found.

💚Please share this page, and it's posts, as much and as often as possible. The more people we reach, the better the chance of finding a living donor for Fran.

1. Fran's insurance will cover ALL your medical expenses: tests, surgery, follow-up.
2. There are multiple resources available to help cover any lost income while you are out of work.
3. Living donors move to the top of the list should your own remaining kidney fail at any time during your life.
4. The surgery is much easier now than in the past, making recovery much quicker.
5. Living kidney donors live long, healthy, normal lives with one kidney.

FRAN MURPHY NEEDS A LIVING KIDNEY DONOR. Why is a living kidney donor better than a deceased donor?
-- Live donor recipients spend less time waiting for a donor organ. The wait for a deceased donor kidney in CT averages five to seven years.
-- Immediately upon transplantation, 97% of live donor kidneys are fully functional, versus 50-60% of deceased donor kidneys.
-- Live donor recipients face less risk of complication or organ rejection.
