BUILDING OUR FUTURE | FirstHealth is proud to announce a new pre-apprenticeship program in partnership with Sandhills Community College!

This collaboration is designed to develop the skilled professionals we need to support our core purpose now and in the years ahead. The program blends on-the-job training with classroom instruction through SCC, offering participants real-world experience in health system careers. Our first participant is Ismerlin Santos-Eulogio, a recent graduate from Hoke County High School.

Ismerlin will join the FirstHealth team as a pre-apprentice maintenance engineer, gaining valuable on-the-job training while completing his studies, and we’re excited to support his journey. This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to workforce development through FirstFutures, an initiative that invests in building a pipeline for future talent in the community. We are thrilled to collaborate with Sandhills Community College on this meaningful opportunity and look forward to expanding the program in the future.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT | If you've ever picked up a meal at the FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital cafeteria, chances are you've been greeted by Aaron McMillan's warm smile and upbeat spirit. A friendly and familiar face to many across the hospital, Aaron has spent the last 35 years making a difference in food and nutrition services—and he still loves every minute of it.

“I love coming to work,” he said. “I love meeting people—employees, visitors, patients. It brings me so much joy.” Even after 35 years, Aaron said he still looks forward to coming in each day. “I love what I do,” he said with a smile.

Over the years, Aaron has held roles in room service and conference services, but he currently serves as head cashier, a position that allows him to connect with people throughout the day. “It’s a wonderful place to work,” he said. “I’ve seen a lot of changes, but the goodness of the people we serve and those we work with haven’t changed. They’re what keep me here.”

Born and raised in Moore County, Aaron credits his parents—his mom worked in hospitality and his dad in landscaping—for shaping his strong work ethic and appreciation for the community. When he’s not at work, Aaron enjoys spending time with family and friends, and watching or playing sports, especially basketball. He still likes to shoot around when he gets the chance. And when football season rolls around, he’s all in on the Dallas Cowboys. “One of the best parts of the season is going back and forth with some of my FirstHealth family who are fans of rival teams. It’s all in good fun.” Aaron is also a proud dad. His daughter is currently attending UNC-Greensboro studying physical therapy.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT | Respiratory therapist Brandon Morse joined the team at MRH-Richmond just 10 months ago, but his connection to the hospital runs deep. A Rockingham native, Brandon grew up with health care in his blood — his father, Stancil Morse, was a nurse at MRH-Richmond until his passing in 2011. Inspired by his father’s legacy and a personal family experience that brought respiratory therapy into focus, Brandon found his calling.

“I originally thought I wanted to go into nursing,” Brandon shared. “But when my stepbrother had a health scare and was placed on a ventilator, the respiratory therapists took the time to walk me through everything. That moment made it clear—this is what I wanted to do.”

Before joining FirstHealth, Brandon worked as a respiratory therapist at WakeMed in Raleigh. Today, he serves patients in the emergency department at MRH-Richmond and is the COPD educator, a role he finds deeply fulfilling.

“Respiratory care is such a broad field—we’re with patients from the moment they enter the emergency room to the time they leave the hospital,” he said. “As a COPD educator, I help patients understand their condition and empower them to manage it effectively. It’s incredibly rewarding to know I can make a difference in someone’s health and quality of life.”

Brandon is a graduate of Richmond Senior High School and earned his degree in respiratory therapy from Durham Technical Community College. He and his wife now live in West End, and they’re excitedly preparing to welcome their first child this October. Outside of work, Brandon enjoys playing golf, traveling when he can find the time and soaking up time with his family.
