On Saturday, Radu Turcanu will give a seminar as part of the Formation du forum d'İstanbul on Science and Truth (12h00-15h00)

Invitation to the English Speaking Seminar 2024

Second Meeting and Agenda

The Second meeting this year will be a +1 meeting and reserved for the work of the School as in regards to the Anglophone Zone of the IF. The questions that we would like to open in the English Speaking Seminar are 'What do we call a seminar of the School, or a School Space?" and "What is the difference between a member of a Forum and a member of the School?" and "What does the School do for each formation, as desire is already admitted when approaching the School?"

Three members of the English Speaking Seminar have agreed to share their thoughts to open this discussion, Dr. Leonardo Rodriguez, Dr. Alon Yaffe, and Carney Lee.

This meeting will be chaired and moderated by the Secretariat of the English Speaking Seminar. If you wish to contribute an item for the agenda, please email englishspeakingseminar@gmail.com

What Do We Treat In Psychoanalysis? Considerations on Symptom and Fantasy

This session of the seminar will discuss how psychoanalysis subverts the medical clinic with a conception that symptoms are an inevitable consequence of the fact that humans speak. So, how does the psychoanalyst direct the cure when symptoms are not abnormalities to be eradicated from one’s life? To respond, we will explore the notion of fantasy, the fixed way the subject encountered to derive satisfaction from the object, which also determines their view of reality.

Gabriela Moreira, PhDPsychoanalyst in Private Practice, member of the California Forum and of the School of Psychoanalysis of the Forum of the Lacanian Field. Holds a PhD with the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Publications include: Psychoanalysis and Political Theory (2018), Reflections on Authority: A Dialogue between Hannah Arendt and Jacques Lacan (2018), Jouissance as a Political Category (2019), and Let Oneself Be Caused by Foreignness (2021).

"How does someone cross the threshold from preliminary interviews to analysis properly, becoming the analysand of their own suffering instead of im-patiently bearing it? Although this passage takes innumerous forms, the logic that permeates the process comes to our attention: the shift in transference in which the subject supposed to know moves from the analyst to the unconscious itself, the diagnostic considerations on the side of the psychoanalyst, the verification of the work of the unconscious through its manifestations, the emergence of the subjective division through the formulation of an analyzable symptom by the analysand, and so on. [...]"
