Do you notice some dark patches in your skin, maybe during pregnancy? Or after a whole day out in the sun? Those dark patches are called Melasma. Melasma is a kind of hyperpigmentation caused by melanin, a natural pigment produced by special skin cells. Almost everyone has melanin, it is what gives our hair, eyes, and skin its color, but when our skin’s melanin production gets damaged, hyperpigmentation happens. That’s when specific patches of skin look much darker than the rest of your skin. Asians naturally have more melanin pigment.
