Warrior Mode Fitness & Nutrition Fitness coach specializing in online functional + athlete fitness and nutrition coaching Hi, I'm Nina and I'm so glad you stopped by!

Here's a little bit about me: my love for fitness started at 17 when I started training in Krav Maga, one of the most intense and realistic martial arts that exist. It teaches people how to prepare for dangerous and hostile situations that could happen anywhere, with a focus on close contact combat. From the moment I learned how much control and power I had over my own body and its capabilities, I was hooked on the fitness journey. I started building my own workouts around functionality and tactical application, adding in pieces of my Krav Maga background, and soon I was creating my own workout programs and loving the process. In 2020 I graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and in 2021, I earned my certification through the ISSA as a Personal Trainer, as well as a Nutritionist and Tactical Conditioning Specialist. I hope to help women that are passionate about growing in their fitness journeys, whether they want to focus on becoming stronger, faster, and more capable or whether they are in tactical fields and need to work on specific skills.

Many of us have long felt the nauseating effects of the toxicity of fitness culture, from the constant fluctuation of “ideal body type” trends to workouts that all the celebrities and influencers are doing that are not always accessible or feasible for someone looking to get into fitness.

We see influencers on social media blatantly flaunting some hard work, but mostly good genetics, bolstered by highly restrictive eating habits verging on ED. “High protein” this and “carnivore” that, “keto” this and “paleo” that.

It’s incessant and constant, and God forbid you end up on fittok or your explore page’s algorithm becomes inundated with so many health and fitness claims, many of them contradicting, that it makes your head spin.

Let's talk about goals: do your goals make sense for you, are they big enough to scare you, yet attainable enough to fully realize?
When it comes to our fitness and health, setting goals is one of the most powerful tools we have to making meaningful progress and impact in our lives. Your definition of a meaningful wellness practice may look very different from anyone else's, and that is a beautiful thing. The way you set and carry out your goals is unique to only you - one of the reasons why comparison is so toxic to our self esteem and mindset towards our ability to achieve what we set out to do.
The most important thing to ask ourselves is why do we want to achieve the goal in the first place? If it's because of someone else, you might as well throw the whole goal away because if it's not self-motivated, it cannot be self-sustained.
I encourage you to set small yet attainable goals; small steps you can take each day. When you are in active pursuit of a goal, you infuse each day with meaning and clarity. Even if it a seemingly small goal; if it has meaning to you, then it is well worth it.

What science says about setting meaningful, internally motivating, and satisfying goals that are exciting but not overwhelming.

A recent study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that exercise is a critical component in managing mental health, specifically for symptoms of anxiety and depression. It was found that high intensity activity was correlated with the greatest improvement of symptoms.
The next time you find yourself stuck in a mental health rut, - because we all are affected by mental health struggles in one way or another, some of us more intensely than others - one of the most effective things to do is high-intensity movement, even if it's only for 5 minutes. If you're sitting at home on the couch or laying in bed and mentally feeling like crap, just set a timer for 5 minutes and do some jumping jacks, situps, a Tabata HIIT workout (a condensed yet intense high-intensity interval training workout) - anything that ramps up your breathing. That increase in heart rate will get your blood circulating through your body, bring more oxygen into your brain, and release dopamine as a result.
It only takes a few minutes and over the long-term, you will be able to train longer, feel yourself getting stronger and more confident with each session, and most importantly have an important tool in managing anxiety, depression, and stress. Taking care of your mental health comes first, but you cannot think your way out of depression or anxiety. You need to act before your mind gets in the way and take steps to move your health forward, even if it's just a small step at a time.

Objective To synthesise the evidence on the effects of physical activity on symptoms of depression, anxiety and psychological distress in adult populations. Design Umbrella review. Data sources Twelve electronic databases were searched for eligible studies published from inception to 1 January 2022....

Performance + stress are so much more connected than we realize. 🧠
I was running and training at peak levels in 2018 but was under a massive load of stress for years. Not surprisingly, my health and conditioning started plummeting just a year later, leading to a long and slow phase of burnout and injury. 😓
It took 3 years to fully rebuild a stress-free and intuitive fitness and health practice that brought peace to other areas of my life rather than strain.
This is a reminder to remember that your overall health comes first - you cannot sustain physical, mental, or spiritual health while neglecting one or the other.
If you're feeling any of these signs below due to stress, ask yourself where you can give yourself some grace to heal and recover before these signs turn into larger issues for your well-being.

If you’ve ever thought that stress might also be affecting you physically, you’d be right…this is how it breaks down👆
