We pray and mourn the loss of Sania Khan, a victim of intimate partner violence, who was taken away from her loved ones earlier this past week. The importance of providing emotional and mental health support to those struggling with domestic violence and community/cultural pressures and stigmas cannot be understated.

We encourage you all to attend a community event on Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 10 AM - 12 PM at Masjid Jafar, where they will be joined by local organizations that assist victims and survivors of domestic violence.

Mental health doesn’t discriminate. However, over 16% of the Black community in the US reported experiencing a mental illness in the past year (source: Mental Health America). We need to understand the factors that lead to a disproportionate impact on our Black community so we can be intentional about how to provide competent care.

Mental health carries a stigma, especially in marginalized communities.

We know that there is a relationship between racism and mental wellness.

We want to highlight the amazing work organizations like Muslim Wellness Foundation, Muslim Arc, and Sapelo Square: An Online Resource on Black Muslims in the U.S. We encourage you all to read this powerful article posted by Sapelo Square that delves into the double stigma for Black American Muslims struggling with mental health challenges:
