CBD to Heal Autism Symptoms I am a mother to an autistic 19 year old girl. My daughter has been having symptoms that she didn’t have before (anxiety, stress and aggression).

I started her on CBD oil and started this page as a means to document her progress in a blog format.

Meet the founders of Whole Plant Access for Autism and learn how cannabis may benefit those living with autism spectrum disorder

Presented by the Farmacy Cannabis Lecture Series

Free Virtual Lecture
Special Guest Speakers: Rhonda Moeller and Jenni Mai

Whole Plant Access for Autism (WPA4A) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to educate families about the possible benefits of cannabis for autism. Founded in 2016, WPA4A works with families all over the world who have a loved one with autism spectrum disorder. These families either do not want to use pharmaceuticals or have tried multiple pharmaceuticals with little or no success in treating some of the most difficult symptoms of autism, such as self-injury, aggression towards loved ones, severe insomnia, cognitive impairment, and communication difficulties.
WPA4A believes that education is key to helping families find success with cannabis for autism symptom management. Working with like-minded organizations and doctors, WPA4A works to bring awareness to others about alternatives that can help so many.
Rhonda Moeller and Jenni Mai are the co-founders of Whole Plant Access for Autism and are our featured guest speakers. They will discuss the wonderful work their doing and point audience members towards research and resources available to families.

We made these delicious gluten-free pancake covered chocolate vanilla cream cookies yesterday for breakfast. Who said you can’t have cookies for breakfast? Lol.

I even added flaxseeds and h**p hearts in the batter to make it a little more healthy. Of course they were a hit with my daughter and she helped me make them. Sooo goood! 😋

Ingredients for the pancake batter:

▢ 2 tablespoons brown sugar or organic coconut sugar
▢ 2 tablespoons coconut oil
▢ 1 egg
▢ 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
▢ 1 cup all-purpose gluten-free flour
▢ 1 tablespoon of baking powder
▢ ¼ teaspoons salt
▢ 2 teaspoons flaxseeds
▢ 3 teaspoons of h**p hearts
▢ About ¾ cup almond milk or coconut milk

Mix all the ingredients together (if it’s too thick you can add more milk to thin it out. I just eyeballed it til I got the right consistency. You don’t want it to be too runny though.

I used store-bought gluten-free chocolate and vanilla cream cookies.

Then I just dipped the cookies in the batter and cooked them in coconut oil.

Day 6 of giving my daughter who has autism cbd to relieve her anxiety/self-hitting/aggression. (I took these notes over a week ago. I planned to do this in real time but I’ve fallen behind on posting my notes. Spoiler alert: she’s actually doing a LOT better today then how she was when I wrote this. It’s cool to see how much she has progressed in such a short span of time. It’s a huge difference from how she was a couple weeks ago in comparison to how she is now. I am grateful for her speedy progress! It’s working!

7:30am 1st dose 8mg
Woke up banging a little & agitated.

9am
She fell back asleep until now. Breakfast: peanut butter, banana, flax, organic honey, vegan choco chips, oats & vanilla oat milk smoothie bowl w/ crushed chex on top.

10:30am 2nd dose 8mg
Frustration, banging, shouting before this dose.

11:15am
Aggression. Caught her watching the shows that give her negative feelings/thoughts. She got aggressive w/ me so I took her phone & put the timer on it for when she can have it back.

12pm
She’s been whining/crying/being aggressive for the last 45mins because I took her phone.

Lunch: Mixed rice w/ lentils, mixed veggies, garlic, pink Himalayan salt & turmeric.

3pm 3rd dose 8mg

5:21pm
Today has been a rough day. Lots of meltdowns from me taking her phone away. I gave her the phone back about an hour after she was done her lunch.

5:30pm
Dinner: she liked the veggie rice we had for lunch so she wanted it again. She’s calm right now. Light face smacking.

6pm
There’s company over upstairs & there’s lots of talking/laughing so she was getting agitated. (Thinking of getting her earplugs to see if that helps. She has noise cancelling headphones but she won’t wear them.)

6:50pm
Happy sounds. She’s been pretty good for the last bit. Light face smacking. She actually hasn’t been doing the face smacking as much today. Still trying to bang her head though. Banging on the wall is a bit harder to do now (I moved the furniture).

8pm 4th dose 20mg (testing out this bedtime dose)

9pm
Happy sounds. She’s calm.

We made these sweet treats this morning to bring to our potluck Victoria Day bbq and they were a hit. My grandma used to make these for us when I was a kid. They’re called peanut butter confetti squares. Usually they’re made with butterscotch chips and butter but we made these ones dairy free and used the fudge recipe from the other day to substitute the butterscotch chips/butter. Sooo goood! Happy long weekend!

INGREDIENTS

▢ 1 cup of peanut butter
▢ 1/4 cup of organic honey
▢ 1/4 cup of coconut oil
▢ 1/4 cup of powdered sugar
▢ 1/4 cup of organic coconut sugar
▢ 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
▢ 1 bag of mini coloured marshmallows

Combine all the ingredients (except the marshmallows) in a bowl. Put it in in the microwave for 1 minute (or boil it down on the stovetop) and stir until all the sugar is dissolved. Let it sit for a few minutes to cool (so that the marshmallows don’t melt in the mixture). Add in the marshamellows and stir them into the mixture. Then poor it all into a parchment paper lined pan and let it cool in the fridge for a couple hours.

Day 5 of giving my daughter, who’s autistic, cbd isolate to help relieve her anxiety/self-hitting/aggression.

Last night I gave her last dose at 9pm. She fell asleep on her own but still kinda late. She woke up banging the walls & she was aggressive.

8am 1st dose 7mg
Breakfast: rice crispies w/ vanilla oat milk & a banana.

11am 2nd dose 7mg
She was pretty good all morning until now. I went outside for a few minutes & came back to her banging on the walls & having aggression towards me.

11:11am
She’s been calm since I gave her the 2nd dose.

11:50am
Agitation with the noise outside. Someone is playing their music. Aggression out of nowhere, complaining about the noise.

12:15pm
Lunch: white bean & kale soup w/ Mary’s organic seeds crackers and GF toast. Her throat has been scratchy so I added turmeric & oil of oregano to her soup.

1pm
Calm.

2pm
She’s a bit agitated today. Not as much face smacking or banging on the walls but she’s more aggressive today than she has been since starting the cbd isolate.

3pm 3rd dose 7mg

3:15pm
She’s been aggressive a couple times in the last bit and still banging the walls (not as frequently but she found a way to still bang on them.

3:35pm
She’s feeling better now and she’s calm.

5pm
Dinner: omelette w/ peppers, onions, garlic, portobello mushrooms, spinach and a side of falafels with tahini.

There was lots of people going through the house and lots of talking. She was sitting in the middle of it all and was cool through it!

5:45pm
Short outbursts of aggression. She comes out of it faster though.

6:30pm 4th dose 7mg
Sitting outside and she was ok for a while then all the noises outside started bothering her. The neighbour (who was standing beside Devon) was calling her daughter & accidentally shouted in Devon’s ear. Devon got upset & started banging on the table, trying to bang her head off the table & she got aggressive with me, hitting/grabbing/pinching. She calmed down once I took her inside where it was quiet.

7:30pm-9:30pm
She’s been calm for the last couple hours.

We made a little gluten-free chocolate walnut cake with whipped icing in the middle for our dessert. It’s the perfect amount of sweetness and the walnuts give it a soft crunch. It’s sooo goood!

18/05/2022

Day 4 of trying cbd isolate for my daughter’s autism symptoms of stress/anxiety/self-hitting/aggression. It’s been helping a lot so far and it’s only Day 4. I’m still trying to figure out which dose works best for her & what times I should give it to her.

7:30am 1st dose 7mg
Breakfast: tangerine. Her throat was scratchy this morning & she’s being more aggressive.

She seems to bang the walls more when I’m not in the room with her but not as much when I’m in the room w/ her.

10:30am
She’s doing better. She was hungry again so I made her gf toast with vegan cream cheese & a GF vegan peanut butter/banana/flax seeds/oats/vanilla oat milk smoothie.

11:30am 2nd dose 7mg
She’s been getting agitated before lunch so I’m trying this dose earlier to see if it helps.

11:40
Short aggression. I caught her watching a show that makes her feel angry/aggressive so that might explain why she’s been more aggressive than usual today.

12pm
She’s doing well, she’s calm. Hardly any banging or face smacking.

1:11pm
She’s been doing well for the last while. No banging on the walls (as soon as I wrote this she knocks on the wall lol.) she’s calm though.

1:55pm
Just started banging the walls but there was no banging on it until now.

2:10pm
Face smacking again but she’s not agitated.
3:30pm 3rd dose 7mg

5pm
Dinner: vegan Buffalo cauliflower bites, vegan Mac & cheese and toast with Daiya cream cheese.

9:30pm 4th dose, last bedtime dose 9mg
She was good all night. I moved the furniture to make it harder for her to hit the walls and it kind of worked. She’s still trying to do it but she can’t reach the wall to bang on it as hard. We’re going for a walk. Hopefully she’s tired when we get back.

18/05/2022

We haven’t baked anything in a few days (I gained 5lbs from all the sweet treats we’ve been making and all the midnight snacks I’ve been having lol) so I’m posting a pic of some vegan berry ice cream that we made a while ago as a reminder that we need to make more of this deliciousness.

Devon actually researched and learned how to make this all by herself and she adjusted the original vanilla ice cream recipe to make it a berry vegan ice cream instead (made with coconut milk, sugar, vanilla extract and mixed berries). She loves it! 😋 Might try making this recipe with some organic coconut sugar instead to make it a little healthier.

Day 3 of giving my autistic daughter CBD isolate to relieve her anxiety/self-hitting/aggression.

She’s still having a hard time falling asleep at night. Woke up this morning agitated banging the walls. Trying to pinch me (not as hard as usual - she stopped herself from pinching harder.)

8:30am 1st dose 6mg
Breakfast: Chex cereal w/ coconut yogurt, strawberries & blueberries.

10am
Feeling more relaxed this morning but still some bouts of frustration & wall banging. Head banging a couple times, not as hard. Not really face slapping right now.

10:30am
Happy sounds/smiling.

11am
No banging for 30mins.

11:33am
She went an hour without banging the walls. She just started banging the walls a bit now.

12:12pm 2nd dose 6mg
Lunch: egg sandwich w/ spinach & mayo.

1:30pm
Occasional face smacking but better than before. Her agitation isn’t lasting as long & they’re less aggressive. Focusing better w/o getting agitated. More gaps between “outbursts”.

2pm
Frustration & crying at the sound she was hearing. Maybe she’s banging the walls to block the sound?

2:44pm
She’s been doing well for the last 45mins.

3pm half dose 3mg
The kids come home at this time so I’m giving her an extra half dose for her anxiety over the noises.

4pm
Half dose helped! 🙂 She’s calm. Wall banging is less frequent.

5pm
Calm. Short outbursts of frustration/aggression because she hears talking outside/upstairs (didn’t last long.)

5:45pm
Calm.

6pm
Dinner: GF vegan spiral Mac & Cheese mixed w/ basil pesto, red & white potatoes boiled w/ garlic & mixed w/ tahini, lemon, Himalayan pink salt, black pepper & a spinach & tangerine salad. I sprinkled nutritional yeast over everything.

7pm 4th dose 6mg

8pm
Doing well. Got frustrated a couple times. She’s having more control over her emotions when it happens, deescalating faster & I’m able to calm her down easier.

11pm half dose 3mg.

I am grateful 4 progress!

We made peanut butter fudge yesterday to have for our dessert. We had it after lunch and it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious!

INGREDIENTS

▢ 1 cup of peanut butter
▢ 1/4 cup of organic honey
▢ 1/4 cup of coconut oil
▢ 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
▢ 1/2 cup of organic coconut sugar
▢ 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and stir. Put it in the microwave for 1min (or stove top until it all melts). Stir it until the sugar has dissolved (I didn’t let mine completely dissolve and it kind of separated to the bottom when it cooled and it tasted caramelly and a bit grainy but sooo goood!

Day 2 of giving cbd isolate to my autistic daughter to help relieve her anxiety/self-hitting/aggression.

(Note: Day 2 was actually last week). I have to shorten my notes to fit everything into a post (since IG limits the number of characters I can use) so it takes some time.

Gave her 5mg at 11pm last night. She had a hard time falling asleep so I gave her melatonin & turned on the 396hz music. She fell asleep after that (after 1am). She woke up banging the walls & banging her head this morning.

9am 1st dose 5mg
Breakfast: vegan parfait (chex cereal, strawberries/blueberries, coconut yogurt & h**p hearts)

10:45am
Doing well all morning. No head banging! Not as much banging on walls either. Less face smacking. Was able to leave her side for half an hour w/o her banging the walls!

12pm
Getting agitated by all the sounds outside (windows were open). She was shouting & get aggressive/grabbing but easier to calm her down.

Lunch: vegetarian grilled cheese & spinach (dipped the bread in 1 beaten egg mixed w/ basil pesto, Himalayan salt, turmeric & nutritional yeast)

1pm 2nd dose 5mg
Vegan smoothie (strawberry/spinach/flax seeds/h**p hearts, Organic Blue Agave Syrup, coconut yogurt, coconut milk)

1:22pm
Happy sounds. No banging/face slapping. Calm.

2:11pm
Happy sounds.

3pm
Kids are home & they’re cooking upstairs, lots of voices & footsteps across the floor. The sounds are bothering her, she’s banging harder & shouting.

5pm 3rd dose 5mg
Dinner: boiled potatoes w/ tahini sauce, garlic, Himalayan salt, black pepper, side of hummus & spinach salad w/ Daiya ranch dressing & vegan feta.

Agitated/aggressive/shouting before dinner.

5:30pm
Slapping herself but a lot calmer. Occasional knocking/banging on the wall.

5:44pm
She’s calm. Lightly slapping herself.

6:30pm
Still doing good.

8pm
We made more cookies.

8:22pm
She was frustrated/aggressive but emotions passed quicker. Slapping herself/banging on the wall.

9:44 pm 4th dose 5mg
Giving this dose earlier to see if she’s able to go to sleep better when taken earlier. I read that a higher dose 20+ mg) is needed for better sleep quality so I’ve increased the bed time dose to 8mg. I’ll increase the dose nightly til I get to 20mg.

This is what we make when the cookies we made yesterday got polished off last night and we haven’t made anything sweet to eat lol.

The recipe is simple… a scoop of peanut butter and vegan semisweet chocolate chips. Voila!

Quick, easy and sooo goood!

I’ve even dipped it in oats, h**p hearts, chopped nuts, crushed chex cereal or chia seeds for added nutrients. Today we’re just sticking with the vegan choco chips though.

Our evening gluten-free, dairy free, vegetarian (I used an egg) sweet treat. This is a repeat of the recipe from the cookies we made the other day but we added some ingredients to make it thicker and a little healthier. Plus, we made them into cookie bars instead. Our last 2 batches of cookies didn’t last very long at all lol.

They’re soft and chewy gluten-free, dairy free, peanut butter, oats, flax, semisweet chocolate chip & walnut cookie bars drizzled with semi sweet chocolate on top! They’re sooo goood!

INGREDIENTS:

▢ 1 cup peanut butter
▢ 1/2 cup brown sugar
▢ 1/2 cup coconut sugar
▢ 1 egg
▢ 1 teaspoon of baking soda
▢ 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
▢ 3 tablespoons of quinoa flour
▢ 1/3 cup oats
▢ tablespoon of flax seeds
▢ handful of chopped up walnuts
▢ handful of vegan semisweet chocolate chips (to go in the cookie dough)

CHOCOLATE DRIZZLE:

▢ 1/2 cup vegan semisweet chocolate chips
▢ teaspoon coconut oil

Preheat oven to 350°F.

In a bowl, wisk the peanut butter, oats, quinoa flour, flax seeds, brown sugar, coconut sugar & coconut oil together. Add the chocolate chips and walnuts. Wisk in the egg, the baking powder until it’s all consistent.

Measure out about a teaspoon of the mixture and form into a ball in your hand then line them up on the parchment paper (on the cookie sheet) about 1.5-2 inches apart. Flatten them with a fork.

Bake for 9-10 mins. They get a little harder as they cool.

In a separate bowl, add a teaspoon of coconut oil to about 1/2 cup of vegan semisweet chocolate chips and microwave for one minute. Stir the chocolate and coconut oil until it’s consistent then drizzle over the cookie bars with a fork after the cookies have cooled a bit.

Starting over… Day 1 of giving cbd isolate (mixed with coconut oil) a try to help my autistic daughter relieve her anxiety/self-hitting/aggression.

Decided to give cbd isolate a try. I messed up on her initial doses of the cbd oil. It was way less than what she actually needed to be able feel the effects.

8:30am 1st dose 5mg
Dry cereal for breakfast.

10:15am
She fell back asleep for 45 mins. She couldn’t sleep last night & was up late (till 1am).

10:30am
Breakfast: (vegetarian) French toast w/ vegan cheese & spinach, sprinkled with nutritional yeast.

11am
She’s doing really well off the 1st dose. No aggression. No frustration/agitation. Still slapping her face a bit but not as hard. Not banging on the walls right now.

11:33am
No head banging all morning either. Besides the face slapping & knocking on the wall less frequent.

12pm
Still banging on the wall when I leave but not for as long.

Today is feeling like a relaxed day & I like it lol. She said that her anxiety is less today. I even vacuumed without her freaking out about the noise.

12:30pm 2nd dose 5mg
She was banging on the walls loud while I went to grab her food.

Lunch: leftover domino’s GF pizza.

1pm
No head banging, no face slapping, no aggression. Just knocking on the walls. Happy sounds.

1:20pm
Tried to go upstairs, she started banging the walls/shouting. Came back & she’s fine.

1:50pm
She’s still banging on the walls every now and then but her frustration is less than usual.

2:08
Happy sounds.

4:20pm
She’s doing really well. She got agitated once but was able to calm herself down instead of getting aggressive. Still banging on the wall but less frequent.

5pm 3rd dose 5mg
Dinner: Vegan chilli & GF toast

5:55pm
She’s doing really well. Only occasional face slapping. She’s calm.

6:45pm
Smiling & happy sounds! Occasional knocking on the wall, hardly any face slapping.

8pm
Doing well!

9pm

We made vegan, gluten-free peanut butter chocolate chip walnut cookies tonight.

She was pretty calm all day! I’m impressed & it’s only DAY 1. Barely any head banging! Today was a great day! I am grateful 4 progress!

Day 9:

5:55am 1st dose
She woke up an hour ago and says she’s having negative thoughts. Light banging on the walls & agitation. Gave her 1st dose to see if she’ll go back to sleep. I didn’t give her any last night.

7:30am
Aggression, pinching and banging the walls. She never went back to sleep.

10am
She’s tired & it’s hard for her to focus. It’s Saturday so she can hear kids talking upstairs & footsteps across the floor so she’s overwhelmed with all the sounds right now. Tried doing a meditation with her but she couldn’t focus. She kept screaming periodically through it & banging the walls. A bit of aggression too.

11am 2nd dose 6mL

11:20am
Happy sounds 🙂

1pm
Lunch: vegan grilled cheese & a bowl of lightly salted edamame.

2:45pm
She’s been doing really well since before lunch. No meltdowns & no banging on things. She’s having a good day! Everyone upstairs went out so the house is quiet.

4pm
We made homemade vegan protein balls.

6pm
Dinner: vegan cheeseburger on a GF bun, French fries and spinach salad with peppers, celery, vegan feta, plant based chipotle dressing and sprinkled with some nutritional yeast.

Devon has been so good all day! No meltdowns, no banging or shouting, no aggression and hardly any face smacking (if anything it was lightly).

7pm 3rd dose 6mL

8:15pm
She’s still doing great! No incidents and only light face smacking.

9:30pm
Happy sounds and she’s still in a good mood. 🙂

10pm
Still good. Today was a good day. I am grateful. 🙏

We made homemade vegan, gluten-free protein balls! We made up this recipe with items we already have. Made with peanut butter, oats, walnuts, h**p hearts, crushed Mary’s Organic Crackers (they’re made with sesame seeds, whole quinoa & flax seeds so I figured it would be good for added protein), dairy free semisweet chocolate chips, coconut oil and vanilla extract. We drizzled some melted semisweet chocolate (mixed with some coconut oil) over top and chilled them for a few hours.

They’re so good and the crushed crackers give them a nice crunch!

(These do not have any CBD in them but I bet that would be a great idea and would go well mixed in with the semisweet chocolate that we drizzled over top.)
