Key functions of NMCZ in Zambia
Registration and licensing: Registers nurses and midwives, issues practicing certificates, and licenses nursing and midwifery facilities.
Regulation and standards: Sets and enforces professional and educational standards for nursing and midwifery practice, including scope of practice.
Education and training: Oversees nursing and midwifery education and training programs, develops curricula, conducts licensure examinations, and accredits training sites.
Professional conduct: Investigates complaints and cases of professional misconduct and ensures adherence to the scope of practice and patient safety.
Continuing professional development (CPD): Enforces CPD requirements to ensure nurses and midwives stay up-to-date with best practices.
Public relations: Promotes public awareness regarding nursing and midwifery programs and the importance of professional standards.
Research: Promotes evidence-based practice through research and informs development of appropriate interventions.
