This past weekend our chapter had the fantastic opportunity to attend the 50th LMSA NE conference at John Hopkins! First of all, we want to congratulate for delivering such a well-crafted itinerary and inspiring workshops! We met many students from other LMSA chapters, and to see so many faces striving for the same goal of paving the way for the future generation of Latino/a providers is one of the many things that bring us together. Un futuro para todos!

Even though Hispanic and Latinos make up about 19% of the US population there is only about 6% of physicians who identify as being latino. Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month we want to not only celebrate the diversity of our latino cultures, but also advocate for our community and bring awareness to the disparity many of our people face!

It is crucial to have more latino physicians given that we are the ones who know the struggles and challenges our patients face the best, and having more representation within healthcare would allow for better quality and standard of care for our minority patients!

As medical students we can do our part by becoming more involved within the admissions process and helping recruit more latino students, and allowing for a strong support system to keep students guided and engaged throughout their journey to becoming great physicians!

Join us in celebrating the first annual National Latino Physicians Day (NLPD)!

Thank you to our volunteers and collaborators at today’s DC Greens Service Event! Through the DC Greens Rx program, we helped enroll families in ward 8 and allowed them the opportunity to be provided fresh fruits/veggies every month from their local Giants Food store! We also had a blast practicing yoga and mediation techniques with the community. 🍃💙
