Happy Self-Discovery Saturday!

The mental health field has put so much emphasis on the mind -- our thoughts and beliefs -- that it's failed to provide education about the body. Emotions like stress and fear originate as sensations in the body, not in the mind.
Trauma lives in the body.

During the pandemic, in 2021, I started 26 and 2 (some call it Bikram yoga). It was and still is on the shortlist of some of the best "medicine" I've ever taken. I may not go every week or every month, but I never stop going.

Little by little. Bit by bit.

Hey, friend. It can be confusing to reflect on many of our experiences up to now. If you have a history of trauma, some things are hard to think about, others are difficult to even remember.

Before you know it, you see yourself as defective or unloveable. I want you to know that there's nothing WRONG with you. Something HAPPENED to you.

If you're interested in processing some of those experiences, I can help. Link in bio.

There is no perfect version of ourselves out there waiting for us. We will always discover new things and new ways of interacting with the world.

We will always learn new truths.

It's Self-Discovery Saturday.

My favorite part of the weekend is the quiet of early morning. Something about the silence, the sunlight, and the newness of the day.

My routine on Saturdays and Sundays is to light incense, water the plants, and read or write something.

Oh! Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day -- do something sweet for yourself!

Practicing something is so much more important than "normalizing" it. We may think something isn't normal due to culture, upbringing, or due to how we survived something. If we wait until something feels normal, we might miss really important opportunities to respond positively to our natural instincts.

Did you know that skin-to-skin touch calms the nervous system and encourages emotional intimacy?

Intimacy is an important ingredient in all the relationships that matter to us -- not just the romantic ones. It creates security and deepens the connection between you and the other person.

If we feel secure with and connected to our people, we are more likely to show up as our full selves without the fear that anything we say or do could risk the relationship.
