I do not allow Graves to f with my life anymore!
Undiagnosed It was killing me, I saw myself withering away until an accident occurred that landed me in an emergency room in Sarasota Florida.
Graves symptoms affecting my heart rendered me an nonsurgical candidate. I immediately called a nurse practitioner who had seen me in the past and suspected thyroid issues And asked her to speak to the hospital staff.
They immediately tested me and I was put on beta blockers, I received surgery for my accident and a 2 days later I began a 3 year methimazole treatment that brought me back to my younger healthier self, what a chapter that was!
Unfortunately after 3 years the methimazole did not get my thyroid back to normal and I have since had a total thyroidectomy.
After the thyroidectomy I began to bloat just as I did with my thyroid. I was shocked, I had hope that thyroid removal would be the cure, it clearly was not, now I started really focusing on the cure.
The cure…
I have since begun intermittent fasting on a keto friendly diet. I have always been sugar free but now I am also gluten free dairy free and I do not consume any processed food ever.
These healthy choices that I have recently made over the past few years have helped to get me in the best shape of my life and at almost 60 years old I am working on total fitness and feeing better than I have in 20 years!
I am 10 kilos, over 22 pounds lighter and now building muscles at 59!
I wish you all well and hope my story can help someone make the necessary changes needed for healthy living.
I honestly feel that Graves’ disease has helped me to take control and pay attention to my health more than ever and I look at it as a blessing in disguise.
My only regret is not trying intermittent fasting and a keto friendly diet prior to my thyroidectomy…
