The Ronald McDonald House will always have a special place in my heart.

Because when my baby was in the hospital, and my world felt like it was crumbling,
they gave me a place to just be mom.

No hotel check ins.
No long drives back and forth.
No worrying about food, or showers, or where I’d sleep that night.

Just warmth.
Just comfort.
Just support, right when I needed it most.

They don’t just house families.
They hold them together during the hardest moments of their lives.

And I’ll never forget that.
Not ever.

I sat in that postpartum room by myself, without my baby.
No cries.
No snuggles.
Just an empty bassinet.

My baby needed the NICU.
So they wheeled them away.
And suddenly I was a mom… alone.

No skin to skin.
No first latch.
Just silence, pain, and hope.

I was healing from birth,
While aching for a baby I couldn’t hold.

That room was supposed to be magical.
But it felt hollow.
Because when your baby’s in the NICU,
you don’t rest.
You worry.
You wait.
You fight silent battles no one sees.

Not all postpartum stories start with cuddles.
Some start with monitors and hope.
And that kind of strength?
Deserves to be seen.

We haven’t posted here in awhile because there really hasn’t been much to update. Aurora is a full blown toddler with a large attitude, strong will, and a drive for independence. She’s been eating well and gaining weight, but she’s still a tiny peanut. She’s a little delayed in her speech development, so we will be getting an evaluation done for that soon.
HOWEVER, the big news that deserved a post is that she had a sleep study done on September 23rd. Aurora has remained on oxygen when she sleeps because a little over a year ago during her last sleep study she could not maintain her oxygen levels due to moderate sleep apnea.
Today we met with her pulmonologist to discuss this years sleep study results and we are THRILLED to share that she can officially discontinue use of oxygen when she sleeps. While she still has some mild sleep apnea she was able to maintain her oxygen levels during those events and has proven that oxygen is no longer necessary!!!
Next year she will have a repeat sleep study to check on her sleep apnea, and at that time we will discuss the option of removing her tonsils if we believe that will help her.
Today we are finally able to celebrate a huge win! Aurora is finally able to be a cordless little girl 24/7!!

April is CDH Awareness month.

Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia.

It’s 1 in 2500-3000 births globally, with over 1600 babies diagnosed each year in the United States alone.

It’s relocation.

It’s MFM + care teams.

It’s NICU.

It’s ECMO.

It’s surgery.

It’s pokes and tubes and supplemental oxygen.

It’s trachs and Gtubes and nissen surgeries.

It’s reflux and GI issues and delays.

It’s hypertension.

It’s no known cause.

It’s devastating.

But it is not always fatal.

CDH is Aurora.

Aurora is HOPE!!
