ABOUT ART THERAPY

Through art-making, people can express and explore feelings that are at times confusing and difficult to communicate verbally. Clients of all ages from young children to adults and elders may benefit from art therapy, which is suitable for a wide range of issues, disabilities or diagnoses. These include emotional or mental health problems, learning or physical disabilities, life-limiting conditions, brain injury or neurological conditions and physical illness. Art materials include, paint, crayons, pencils, clay, craft, assorted paper, natural objects, card, beads, found objects, buttons, and inks. It’s a common misconception that art therapy is only used for young people. While they are often less inhibited than adults in expressing themselves, the process is the same for children and adults. But I cannot make art. Clients do not need to have any experience or expertise in art. Often the less you understand about art making and how how different art materials work, the more room your imagination has to experiment and connect with the materials in new, freeing ways.

Messy play, self expression or just fun. Astraea choices of colours, tools and movements. Art and self expression so important in our lives. Especially the uncertaint anxiety provoking times we are in. Time to reflect, focus on us and put our mental health first.
