My story...
Hi there, my name is Alex and I am passionate about integrative and holistic health. I have had to (and still have to) deal with quite a few health issues throughout my lifetime including severe internal infections, several surgeries and long hospital stays, chronic digestive issues, allergies and sensitivities, and anxiety related disorders linked to Sensory Processing Disorder/Sensitivity. I grew up in a family that always valued natural remedies and alternative approaches, particularly for minor injuries and illnesses. Some of my conditions though got so debilitating at some stage that I was advised to take various types of medication on a longterm basis. At the outset I had no other choice, as my symptoms were so severe that I needed a “quick fix” to give me a break and enable me to do the basics ie. eat, sleep, work and take care of my children. After a while though this didn’t sit well with me, especially because I developed seemingly unrelated symptoms and when I developed pneumonia I started to do some more research into the side effects of the medications I was taking. I had discussed them with the various treating professionals and was assured at the time that they were “safe” to take longterm. This stood in stark contrast to what I started to lean about the side effects and I was appalled about the discrepancies between medical professionals advice and the actual scientifically proven adverse effects of the medication, which I knew was widely prescribed. I decided that I needed to find a way to “treat myself” back to health with a more natural approach. For many years I had been attending alternative practitioners as well as mainstream doctors but there were links missing for me. Even though we always prioritised a healthy diet, organic produce and I had read many books on various alternative therapies etc. I needed something more specific and I started to study integrative health and nutrition. I had heard of the alkaline diet before and intuitively I knew I had to give it a try parallel to slowly weaning myself of the medication. It was a long and difficult journey, as one of the side effects was an addictive effect ie the symptoms got worse that ever before, but staying on the medication was not an option. Alongside the change in diet I expanded on my previous qualifications and knowledge of alternative therapies and everyday skills such as Meditation, Brain-Rewiring Methods, Nutrition, Reiki, Herbalism, Gardening, Cooking, Crystal Healing, Energy Healing, Shamanism, Kinesiology, Earthing, Colour and Sound Healing, Eco Therapy etc.
What I found out during this journey is that all these modalities are closely related and connected, like puzzle pieces fitting together. From my experience I know that we can be our own healers, both physically and emotionally. It’s not an easy road and there is no final destination and I most certainly don’t demonise modern medicine, we are very lucky to have it for so many conditions. I DO believe though that we are being over medicated and that natural and alternative approaches are still laughed at and frowned upon... but this attitude is changing slowly but surely.
It’s all about keeping an open mind, don’t dismiss things because you don’t know them. So many things that support our well-being can be easily integrated into everyday life and on this page I just want to pass on ideas and information for you to make up your own mind if it resonates with you. Everybody is different, I always need that balance of fact based information and more spiritual approaches and there are so many modalities out there to suit everyone.
I hope you find something that is helpful for you and your well-being,
