🌿 Setting Boundaries for Safety 🌿

🛑Challenge: Many religious trauma survivors were taught to ignore their own needs or let others make decisions for them.

🟢Strategy: Practice setting small boundaries-say “no” when you need to, or take a break from conversations that feel unsafe. Boundaries are a healthy, necessary part of trauma recovery

This is so important. If you are looking for a good podcast that covers making sense of your story, attachment styles, trauma, the brain, the body, relationships, ALL things healing...I cannot say enough good things about Adam Young Counseling's. I've been binging it since I finished his new book Make Sense of Your Story. Soooooo eye-opening.

Trauma therapist Resmaa Menakem says that the primary reasons people come to see him is to be with his settled nervous system. When you were an infant/toddler you needed a primary caretaker to interactively regulate your dysregulated body. This is how the brain develops the structures so that you can self-regulate. Today, you need the same thing: another regulated nervous system to be WITH you when you are dysregulated so that you can experience the shift from dysregulation to regulation. This is how you learn to self-regulate. For more on affect regulation, check out The Place We Find Ourselves podcast episode 20 and 150.
