Accommodations and supports need to be implemented with a solid understanding of the why behind them.

If someone doesn't understand the why, it's very possible that the implemented supports are going to be ineffective.

Accommodations are no good if the kid doesn't feel comfortable or safe using them.

What's the culture like?
What's are the attitudes there?
Is it ok to be different?
Is it ok to speak up?

NDIS Cuts Are Hurting People. Now, We’re Tracking the Harm.

📍The Nobody Worse Off Coalition has today launched the Harm Tracker — a national, independent tool to expose the real impact of NDIS cuts.

Co-designed and led by Disabled people, with support from allied health professionals, the Harm Tracker collects stories and data from across Australia. It documents what support has been lost, the harm that follows, and who is affected. It will also capture and display the thinning of markets as service loss rapidly grows.

We’re using this evidence to create clear, accessible reports, maps and graphs. Because the harm is real, and it must be made visible.

The Harm Tracker is a tool for truth-telling. It is also a call to action.

NDIS decisions are being made behind closed doors, without real co-design and with little accountability to the community. This is how we open them again.

Share it, use it, email it, text it. Get it into the hands of everyone you can.

The Harm Tracker is now live. You can find the link in the comments below.

This work is grounded in Australia’s legal and moral responsibilities under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The current direction of the NDIS is not aligned with that commitment. These cuts are not co-designed, not safe, and not just.

Co-designed by Disabled people. Backed by a national coalition. Built to expose harm.

Remember: it ain't over until the crips say it's over.

WHAT IS THE HARM TRACKER?
The Harm Tracker is a new national tool to report how NDIS cuts are hurting people. It is an independent, grassroots, public interest project. It is co-designed with Disabled people, led by Disabled people and created in partnership with Allied Health workers.

If you or someone you support has lost services, had harmful changes to your plan, or been left without the help you need – the Harm Tracker is your place to speak up.

We collect real stories from people all over Australia to show what’s really happening. Your voice helps expose the impact of these cuts and push for change. We’ll use clear visual tools like Flourish to turn this data into maps, graphs, and reports that everyone can understand." The colour palette of the website is pink, green and white.]

'Tangential communication'.
'Difficulty staying on topic'.
'Erratic communication'.
'Disjointed'.
'Poorly planned'.

I've heard all these and more when it comes to the AuDHD communication style.

Nope.
Done with that.

Linear communication is but one way of doing it. It's all well and good.
But it's not the way I do it.

Many neurodivergent people do it differently.

We jump between topics.
We link ideas in a non-linear way.
We connect ideas so quickly in our minds that we don't necessarily explain every step of the thought process.
We might forget bits and then circle back.

And that's ok.
I call it kaleidoscopic communication style. Changing, colourful, blending, overlapping. Beautiful.

We're allowed to communicate authentically.
Our way is expressive.
It's creative.
It's a lot fun.
And it tends to be appreciated by other neurodivergent folk.

So.

If you are uncomfortable with the way we communicate, perhaps you might write yourself a goal to develop your understanding and acceptance of neurodivergent communication styles.

Yes?

Pic shows a therapist validating a neurodivergent communication style.
Can we all do that please?

Many Autistic people are not lacking in social skills. Get a bunch of Autistic friends together and watch the magic happen.

Many of us are not lacking in humour or sarcasm. The funniest people I know are Autistic. Our humour may be different to yours.

Many of us have so much empathy that the feelings try to crush us. We might express that empathy differently to you.

We communicate. Our communication style is probably different to yours.

It’s not that we don’t have these skills.
It’s that we do them differently. They look different.

And they’re often unrecognisable to neurotypical folk.

But they are there.

💔

The risk was never in overpaying therapists.
That’s not even possible -
not when so many run at a loss,
absorbing unpaid hours,
covering travel gaps
and personally carrying the emotional weight of a system that keeps asking for more with less.

We are not overfunded.
We are overstretched,
undervalued
and systemically under-resourced.

The real risk?

Is relying on us to keep showing up,
while giving us every reason to walk away.
And when we do,
it’s the participants who lose.
Lose their access.
Lose their progress towards independence.
Lose the supports that help them stay in work, school, community and connection.

This wont be a gap in service delivery.
It will be a collapse of care, with real human cost.

Too many people claim to be experts on neurodivergence or neurodiversity but still operate within the pathology paradigm or haven't deconstructed the pathology paradigm so here I am with an offering:

The Neurodiversity Paradigm: A Deep Dive

July 28th, 2025
Live Online via Zoom + Recorded
https://events.humanitix.com/the-neurodiversity-paradigm-workshop

For one day and one day only this year, I’m doing a publicly available online webinar. Come delve and dive into the neurodiversity paradigm while we deconstruct the pathology paradigm and the DSM. Don’t expect a discussion about biology or science or brains, this is about culture, systems and society.

We’ll cover:

* The history of the DSM and the roots of the pathology paradigm

* How the pathology paradigm is a form of systemic oppression

* Neurodivergent as a sociopolitical term

* What neuronormativity is and looks like

* The neurodiversity paradigm and its core principles

* Myths and misinformation surrounding the neurodiversity paradigm

* Intersections with movements like Mad Pride, Psychiatric Abolition and the Hearing Voices Movement

* How this paradigm can be applied to differences and experiences like plurality, altered states, hearing voices, eating disorders and personality disorders

I don’t do public webinars often so if you’re a therapist, social worker, psychologist, allied health professional or academic, you really don’t wanna miss this!
