Trauma can be experienced following experiences related to infertility, the loss of a baby, a difficult birth experience, poor care, or if the mother or baby have been very unwell. Often it is felt most profoundly when the person felt:
    • Really scared or trapped
    • Neglected or abandoned
    • Not listened to or disbelieved
    • Forced into receiving unwanted treatment
    • Trapped and unable to escape
    • Let down by those they expected to trust
    • Distressed by other things happening at that time
Birth-related trauma may be experienced by the mother or her partner. It may also be experienced by other close family members who felt very scared at the time or when they heard about what happened after the event.
Very often feelings of trauma subside after a number of days or weeks, but occasionally they persist, sometimes for years. Symptoms may include flashbacks, bad dreams, panic attacks, having constant thoughts about the event, and having feelings of being on high alert for much of the time. This is incredibly wearing for everyone involved and may have a huge effect on every day happiness and well-being.
Birth Trauma Resolution therapy will help any woman, partner, or member of staff who is living with the repercussions of birth-related trauma. The therapy is gentle, quick and effective. It takes two to four sessions and does not require people to talk in detail about their experience unless they want to.
