Why does it matter? This year’s World Mental Health Day, on 10 October, comes at a time when our daily lives have changed considerably as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The past months have bro…

Today we launched Pupa.Care. The initiative will define the next-generation approach to mental health care and wellbeing.

Why do we care?

Because we have been there before, in this dark place of anxiety and depression.

Because we are trained therapists, a Sydney based group of counsellors and psychologists, dealing with mental health issues on a daily basis.

Because..... mental health now is the third disease group in Australia, after cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Because..... mental health issues cost the Australian economy an enormous $10 billion per annum in Medicare-funded health services (AIWH 2020), and anywhere between $6 billion and $36 billion in productivity loss for the Australian economy (Productivity Commission 2010).

Why PUPA?
Everyone knows what a pupa is, right?

According to Wikipedia, A pupa (Latin: pūpa, “doll”; plural: pūpae) is the life stage of some insects undergoing transformation.

As mental health therapists, we see our clients in a state of imbalance, uncertainty, grief, or pain. They need to be helped and supported, as they are transitioning from this challenging state into a new and hopefully better life. In many regards, this brings to mind the analogy of a butterfly: It is going through successive stages of life by metamorphosis, from an egg to a caterpillar, to a pupa and eventually to this magnificent although ephemeral flying creature.

This is a small glimpse at the story behind the making of our parent company, Counselling and Wellbeing by Rebecca. It explains why we chose this logo:

At Pupa.Care, we want to help people out there starting their own transformation and growth journey. From today’s caterpillar, crawling and scrambling through modern concrete and steel jungles, we want to help them form their own cocoon, and get to be a pupa for some time. The time necessary for self-reflection, self-care, self-healing. The time everyone deserves to pause, evolve and become a new and improved self.

The mantra underpinning the Pupa.Care platform is that technology should enable, assist and augment us, not add to our cognitive overload.
