This beginner trauma informed yoga practice will help you stabilize your root, solar plexus, and heart chakra. Yoga asana is a movement practice to help us align the mind, body, and spirit. In a trauma-informed approach to yoga, the facilitator has an in-depth understanding of the widespread impact trauma has on individuals as it relates to the body and more specifically as it pertains to the nervous system.

According to the National Council of Behavioral Health, it is reported that about 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some type of traumatic event in their life. Because of the prevalence of trauma, it is safe to say that at least one student in a yoga class has experienced trauma.

With this understanding, the facilitator intentionally teaches and structures their sequences based on the core principles of trauma-informed yoga which include: Safety, Trust, Collaboration, Empowerment, and Cultural Sensitivity.

Unlike a standard yoga class, the emphasis of a trauma-informed yoga class is on equipping and empowering the students to develop body awareness, self-inquiry, and emotional regulation skills/distress tolerance.
