Compassion, Communication, ,Empathy, Education, Kindness and Professionalism
It's hard to maintain all of this while assisting workers who have been injured and marginalized, adjusters who are juggling multiple roles, and attorneys on both sides who are trying to serve their clients while ensuring that the right thing is being done.
Along with the medical team, rehabilitation counselors or case managers as we are often called, serve as the glue to hold the players/ parties together while trying to remain unbiased advocates to the workers and stay on task with the medical team to ensure the "appropriate and medically necessary" treatment is being provided.
Its hard to maintain our composure as we travel long distances daily trying to stay alive on GA highways and roads, field phone calls and emergencies, haggle with 3rd parties who don't stay in their lanes or provide different care to what was asked, counsel providers and deal with daily frustrations of all involved.
But, its best to stay unbiased and deal with each individual without any misconceptions or stereotyping. Reach out to co workers in the industry to vent over a fortified drink, Educate yourselves on alternatives and above all, stay true to yourself, your principles and ethics.
Its particularly hard on some days, when it appears NO ONE is out there fighting for us (aside from our wonderful Board Coordinators at the State Board), and any of the other parties can come into our lanes without even a turn signal and yet, we get slapped if we diverge into their lanes ever so slightly!!
Take care and have a marvellous and healthy rest of the year.
