Hello! I'm Kelly! I have been a midwife for 12 years now. I was an independent midwife in New Zealand before moving to Australia nine years ago. Since then I have worked in a private hospital and a public birth centre in Adelaide, caring for women from all walks of life. I love advocating for women and providing holistic, evidence-based care that addresses your needs and helps you to navigate your pregnancy, birth and fourth trimester. ⁠

I am a mother to three gorgeous children, a son and daughter in my arms and a daughter in the stars. They definitely keep me busy! I look forward to meeting you and supporting you in your own parenting experience, whether that is adjusting to being a new mother or welcoming more children to your family.⁠

Ni**le stimulation and frequent removal of milk from the breast are two important factors in making enough milk for your baby. Unfortunately all too often we see mamas who were separated from their baby in the first 24-48 hours who then struggle with their milk supply. ⁠
⁠
Sometimes there can be medical reasons why a baby may not be able to feed directly at the breast (often but not limited to prematurity, NICU admission, baby needing to be transferred to a different hospital to mum etc), but this is where it is so important to have a plan to support your breastfeeding journey.⁠
⁠
Generally, this plan will involve hand expressing or using an electric breast pump at least 8-12 times in every 24 hour period, and skin to skin/putting baby to the breast as soon as possible. This needs to happen from birth - starting expressing at 12-24 hours after birth is already too long of a delay and can have consequences on milk supply. If your postnatal ward midwife does not talk to you about an expressing plan please ask about it as it's really important! ⁠

When you book your Postnatal Midwifery Package with us you will receive messaging support between appointments and whilst in hospital after your baby is born - this comes in super handy for navigating situations like this as you'll have your midwife cheering you on and supporting you every step of the way. We really do have the best job in the world, but we wouldn’t be able to work in this way without our wonderful clients (and also the health professionals who refer to us).
