So this picture was taken a year ago, but I'm just catching up.

Somewhere along the way, we learned that repressing or blowing past our emotions & distorted thoughts was "capturing" our thoughts. But it's not.
Healing comes in being known, even when were ugly.
It means expressing in a way that pours out and lets go. Allows God's grace to know us. Sometimes it ends there - sometimes it ends with reframing or choosing a new way of thinking - gently redirecting lies, and half truths.

My favorite way is to write it all out - every single dirty detail and then notice what seems off - asking God what He wants me to know & believe.

Why is this important? Well first of all, it builds trust with God, and we find ourselves renewed from the inside out, but it also brings our brain back into homeostasis - allowing our physiology to priorize peace.

Pain comes in surprising places.
By taking an approach of curiosity and paying attention to what is happening around you, your perceptions and where you sense of "peace" lies, we can find out what might be at the root of symptoms.
But here is the thing. It's not always what it seems. Why is tidiness perfectionism so important to you? Were you taught that this is where you earn your worth? That your dignity comes in cleanliness?
As I worked with one of my clients, her back pain went away as she moved out of the pressure of finishing everything on her to do list, and moved her worth into the fact that is given to her by God, that she doesn't have to earn it (it's given freely) and that she is allowed to rest in Him, not always produce (organization).
This will be a journey for her to teach her brain that tidiness isn't the end goal - that it's safe to let things go. But it'll be worth it. Trust me, the journey is always worth it.

Healing from brain generated symptoms can be very counter intuitive. It can be easy, because it's so uncomfortable - to fall into the trap of trying to force your brain to get better fast. But in reality, your brain needs a break, not more pressure. It needs you to let go of taking on the stress & pressure of fixing yourself and instead to let your brain take a rest.
Although the bible isn't about neuroplastic symptoms, God is really clear that HE gives us rest, and that sabbath or taking breaks is important.
Give your brain a break; trust the process of healing and let go of unrealistic expectations that will only activate the fight/ flight nervous system.

If perceived danger can be the cause of chronic threat symtoms in the body, the answer is not to turn up the danger dial by begging God to heal us, it's by inviting Him into the very threat's that are increasing the threat perception or stress response in the body. It's not about him fixing our unbroken bodies that are healthier than we and our doctors give them credit, it's about letting ourselves be known, shaped, changed, validated, loved & empowered in and through Him.

In the process of crreating group sessions and/ or a video program. If you want to get on the update list, shoot me an email and I'll let you know when it's available.

Over - thinking & Avoidance are both parts of the fear-pain cycle, one sends the message that are emotions are dangerous and the other approaches them with an intensity and pressure that is sure to dysregulte us more. In fact, fear is often so loud and overwhelming that we don't hear God's voice in the midst of it because we are distracted by our own thoughts & self reliance to solve everything.

Instead, move your attention into your body and just Abide with the Lord. Let the Holy Spirit be your comfort.
In other words, instead of running from your fears, let Him in. Be quiet with Him.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

I can not tell you how much I love it when my clients are breaking generational patterns of symptoms in their family by helping their children validate & name their emotions, process them and invite God into the space that they are feeling.

Instead of telling their child to "fix" their emotions, my client is helping her name how she feels & find it in their body.

Emotions aren't a problem. It's what we do with them that matters.

Perfectionism can seep into many categories in your life - from healing perfectly & quickly, to discontentment with dirt or mess, to moral legalism, to expecting others to be perfect, to your work perferformance.

It causes havoc in your brain & body - slowly your nervous system sees any imperfection as dangerous - but you don't see the relationship between symptoms and this personality trait because you're too busy trying to fix the symptom.
On the other hand, when we meditate and apply God's grace, we have compassion on our journeys, our mistakes, our sins, others around us and we find contentment & acceptance with what is.

Personality traits go with you everywhere - do your symptoms ebb and flow with this trait?

I don't expect people to like this post, because it's uncomfortable. It's hard to grieve when we love. Read that again. It's hard to admit the ways people have harmed us, especially if they are still in our life; it can feel gross. We can have teh false perception that it's more godly to pretend like the harm doesn't exist. But in reality, God calls us to abide in HIm and to let HIm be our comfort. How can He be our comfort if we don't let Him into the ways were hurting. This is how we heal, AND how we learn to know the difference between what we should over-look vs when we should mourn what we don't have.
After we are honest with God is when we ask Him to help us set appropriate boundaries or make changes or if it's the type of situation we leave be and let go.
What does God want you to know about how He sees you.

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Cor. 1: 3-4

You guys.
Healing is about both feeling & capturing.
Being highly sensitive people comes with great blessing, but also great responsibliity.
David, in the Psalms, is a great example of this. He writes out his thoughts, good, bad and ugly and then he self-corrects, leading himself towards peace, trust & joy - all which bring healing.
Where are you on this scale? Are you in the denial of feelings part or are you believing lies, falling into a victim mentality, ruminating on fears, and worrying?

Believing your symtoms are brain generanted is half the battle. Knowing that there is nothing wrong with your nervous system, that it's just a bit hyper protective gives us hope for healing and allows us to not fear when symptoms increase.

Breathing changes indicate a threat response of the subconscious
Energy shifts like increase in adrenaline or fatigue indicate fight/ flight/ freeze activation
Tension indicates a subconscious belief that you or your body needs protection.
Heart rate increase shows a conscoius or subconscious threat, danger response.
Symptom increase. A variety of symptoms such as pain, digestion, ibs, headaches, dryness, etc are common stress symptoms.
FEeling unsafe is a sign of perceived danger
Mood shifts can happen when our senses pick up infomration that reminds us of childhood or adult stressors. Stressors that have been undealt with and trigger a deep overlooked emotional response - often suppressed.

Anything you give attention to will get bigger in your brain.
Pain is the same.

Negative attention will only increase fear, releasing more neurotransmitters that strengthen the fear pathways. In addition, it will make your brain better at producing pain.
And on top of that, then your brain will start to feed the prediction cycle, anticipating pain, which increases fear which increases the danger signal.
Before you know it, you have chronic pain, or a new stress symptom.
