A while ago i noticed Tasha doing pull ups in the gym (we work in same gym) It was the usual band around top, foot in band and assisted pulls. She mentioned she had a goal of being able to do a full pull up by herself.

Well a bit further back i had come across a great pull up training approach that was more varied and hit the movement in various ways at various stages. Which i thought was great. So all i did was share it with Tasha and suggest this approach instead of the usual keep trying a pull up and keep training with a band approach.
Unbeknown to me Tasha took it on board completely and had been applying it.

This week she comes over to show me this video and said that it was down to using that approach. Her first full pull up 😃

This got me thinking that sometimes we forget the ripple effect we can have on people. We get so focused on building our client base that we forget why we got into this industry. I enjoy what i do as i like to see people succeed and build their strength and health up. We come across too many people that should have, would have, but didn’t.

In this instance credit to for creating this and sharing. Think of it like this. A guy in Hawaii puts together an infographic and shares it. Years later a girl in Perth, Australia applies it to her training and has achieved her goal of being able to perform a full pull up. Hows that for a ripple effect 😊

So here i am sharing it again, just with a little proof of its effectiveness.

Thanks For the infographic, credit where it’s due 👍🏻
Congratulations to for applying and putting in the work, well done.
Ps. Tasha is not a client, no credit claiming. It was 100% her.

Hopefully anyone with a pull up goal can find this helpful.

Hey you, don’t miss this. ⬇️

Let’s assume you have a submaximal weight, so you are intentionally slowing your tempo like the “time under tension” crowd recommends.

To implement a slow tempo, we have to reduce the amount of force used to lift the weight; this reduces motor unit recruitment and therefore the amount of muscle fibers used.

When we reduce the force applied to the bar, it moves more slowly.

This means, when the muscle is artificially slowed without going to fatigue, fewer muscle fibers are exposed to mechanical tension compared to when we use a maximal effort.

The lower threshold motor units trained in this manner are not as responsive to strength training as those that belong to the higher threshold motor units.

To reach comparable levels of MUR, you would then have to grind those reps out until you are closer to failure…but all you end up doing is increasing fatigue and taxing recovery needs without producing superior results.

Slowing down due to actin-myosin cross-bridging from high MUR (lifting heavy ass weights) is good, artificially slowing reps to achieve more time under tension is not the same thing.

The more time you spend in the eccentric (beyond simply controlling the weight down), the more soreness you experience, the longer it takes to recover for no benefits.

TuT gurus are simply misunderstanding that more soreness does not mean a better stimulus.

Everything is made of chemicals.

Whether made by nature or made by man doesn’t denounce the ingredients within. There’s formaldehyde in a pear. But you wouldn’t drink a glass of formaldehyde.

Context and dosage influences health outcomes. Even arsenic and water natural and chemicals.

For most it’s taken years of habits to get to the stage you’re at now. If that stage is not where you’d like it to be why do you think years can be unwound in weeks/months? Or with a quick fix? A special diet? Etc
It’s not just about now. It’s about not revisiting now.
