I spent the first bits of my asana practice many years ago just in amazement that my body could even move in such a way.

I spent the next few years taking in every piece of information, tips, workshops and trainings to deepen not only my asana practice but to deepen my knowledge of the 8 limbs of Yoga.

One thing I can absolutely attest to, with everything I’ve learned about asanas is this…
Take everything you learn with a grain of salt.

And remember that your body and your practice will differ from the next persons. What may work for them might not work for you.

One of my favorite takeaways from my 300 hour training was learning how resilient the body is but also how different every student in my class was.

It really helped me to just let go and actually explore methods that worked for ME.

Do what works for YOU!

I think one of the coolest things about stepping away from your asana practice and coming back is experiencing everything again with a beginners mind, only this time not rushing to find some sort of finish line that never existed.

You already know what's on the other side of those splits or that handstand. More work😂

So this time you feel with every fiber and you see things from a different perspective.

I'm reminded of this when I saw ’s recent post about how "we don't learn by experiencing. We learn by reflecting."

I've bent over backwards (pun intended) and poured more energy into finding ways to make money by teaching yoga than I can count or remember. Years..
I loved to practice it so much, I wanted it to be something I was also able to turn into a business that would serve a multitude of needs.
And they warn you about this in your Yoga teacher training that while the practice is for everyone, the business of running a studio or even having a business might not be.
I resonated with this so much that I took a break from workshops and even teaching for several months while I refueled my energy for the practice itself.
It wasn't that I couldn't turn it into a business, it was that after a while, I just didn't have the energy needed to market myself beyond being a yoga teacher at your local studio.
So much energy and time is required to upkeep a business and I didn't have any left when it came time to deepen my own personal practice.
And while I am planning to host some trainings and workshops, it'll be in collaboration with other helping hands.
For now, you can practice with me locally at Sweet Santosha Yoga on
Sundays from 8:30-9:30am (Heated Vinyasa) and Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30pm (Hatha).

But first, yoga…..

My work is important but so is my health!

Have you heard the saying, “you can’t pour into another’s cup if yours is empty?”

It’s so true and it’s why many of us experience burnout. Take time for yourself today even if it’s 5 minutes. Those 5 minutes can change your entire outlook for the day.

I used to think I could do anything I
put my mind to. If I wanted something bad enough, I could make it happen.

However, It's not hard to let your own thoughts get in the way of working towards your vision. I've spent my fair share of time wondering where my next meal would come from, or how I'd pay my bills and rent when there was no money in the bank, while I ventured in a new business.

So when the opportunity presents itself in a way that invites me to step out of my comfort zone, the anxiety can creep up quickly.

I have two choices. I can "trust the process" and
continue work towards my goals, or I can keep doing the same thing I've always done.
And while I can appreciate a comfortable and known routine, there is nothing to be had or learned by standing in place.

Chase your passions, whatever they may be with your whole heart.

I started writing because
I was tired.
I was tired of saying
what I didn’t mean,
of thinking what
I could never say.

Now, the liquid ink
has courage to
cleanse my soul,
that’s spills on paper
pouring the shades of
my unmasked truth.

When I began practicing asana 5 1/2 years ago, I was working through a lot of internal pain caused by past trauma without the ability to seek help. I was a 34 year old highly anxious mother, recovering from alcoholism, abuse and S.A., while also working full time in the medical field to provide for my family.

My family convinced me to start a yoga practice and it literally saved my life. I was merely hanging on by threads at the time and was desperate to find an outlet. Time after time, the universe would provide opportunities for guided practice and I would oblige.

Once I completed my first 10 month training and decided to teach yoga, I had this vision of creating a community with other like minded individuals that I could share my experiences with to influence a path towards healing.

When I say yoga literally saved my life, what I mean is, that it opened up a path for me to seek guidance from others and find support in a community, especially during a time where I felt alone.

Somewhere along the way, I lost sight of my intention, not wanting to share my experiences, worried about judgement (ego). Time has allowed me to grow while also gaining the confidence to open up more to others.

Most recently, my new friend reminded me that not everyone will be able to relate, and people will most certainly judge, but my message will be received by those who they are intended for.
