๐Ÿ’œMeet our next warrior Ashley. She was diagnosed with epilepsy in childhood, and has since been fighting the good fight fearlessly. She has been through multiple procedures to control her epilepsy. Even though she still has her good days and bad days, she takes on each with a smile. Hereโ€™s her letter to epilepsy:

โ€œDear Epilepsy,

I donโ€™t know if youโ€™ll get this. I pray that you will stop one day. I pray that people will learn the steps that it takes to deal with you and not feel like they're a burden to their family. I pray that more people will come forward and speak about the importance of this illness. I know that Iโ€™ve been through it, but Iโ€™m not afraid of you anymore because I know that I will be healed.

Without warm regards,
Ashleyโ€

๐Ÿ’œ Meet our next warrior Luci. Luci was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 13. She is a champion for advocacy, and making sure the voices of our warriors are heard. Hereโ€™s her letter to epilepsy:

โ€œDear epilepsy,

โ€œWhy me?" This question has haunted me since my diagnosis. It feels like my life did a complete 180-degree turn due to epilepsy. From enduring seizures to coping with the side effects, this condition has robbed me of the ability to engage in activities I once enjoyed and looked forward to. It's disheartening to see epilepsy awareness lagging behind other health issues like cancer. My hope is to change that narrative by spreading awareness wherever I can.

Sincerely,
Luci Anderson, the person epilepsy came to without permission.โ€

๐Ÿ’œ Meet our first warrior Eveian! She was diagnosed with epilepsy as an adult, and has since turned her triumph into resilience!

โ€œI was diagnosed at the of 49. I started having blackouts/blanking about 18 months before diagnosis but didnโ€™t know what it was. I was then diagnosed with Focal Epilepsy and Absence Seizures. Over the 18 months, I continued to have blackouts. One night, I went to bed and woke up in an Ambulance with my daughter at my side. She was 11 years old at the time. I later found out that she heard me fall out of bed. She saw that I was unconscious and that my head was badly injured.

The condition created new barriers in my life. The main barrier has been the fear of having a seizure at any moment.

My family has been supportive, and most importantly, my daughter is a big support. She was with me at the start and continues to support me with this condition today.

Even though I was and still am an advocate for a healthy mind and body, the condition has given me a deeper appreciation for health. With an advocating and inquiring mind Iโ€™ve educated myself as much as possible and still learning to share my knowledge with others.โ€

IMAGINE....your child will soon NOT have to live in fear of having a seizure in front of his/her classmates and the teacher or staff doesn't know what to do.

So excited to share that H.3309 has passed in the full Senate Education Committee and will now move to the full Senate floor! We are just two readings away from the bill passing and then it will head to the Governor's desk.

Thank you to EVERYONE that has been on this journey with us. We've come a long way and the finish line is in sight! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ
