PLEASE READ—ESPECIALLY MY GEN X COMRADs. The first part happened to me, the second is GREAT advice. Thx Stephanie and Shemona!!

Last week I had a weird episode at work. I was in our Woodbine clinic where it’s just 2 of us in the clinic. All day I had to take deep breaths and my hand was tingling and at one point my fingers cramped. Then my other hand, then both my feet/lower legs. Laid down with my feet up—ended up dizzy and light headed. Took my bp and it was unusually high. My heart rate was in the 140s+ (I’m like 78 on any other day—later I would see that my Fitbit registered it as “exercise”). My chest was tight. Satted 100%, but I didn’t feel right. Literally called first my mom (wondering am I crazy?) and then my co-worker, Shemona (thank you for standing ready w the aed) to call 911. If you know me—I’ll try to walk anything off, but something didn’t feel right. I ended up having low potassium—which untreated can end up with a something like this. The EMT had me vagal down, but it didn’t help. 6 hours in the ER. 4 hours before my heart rate went below 100.

So thankfully it wasn’t a stroke or heart attack.

BUT THIS IS GREAT INFO!!! ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

💔What would *you* do if you were alone and had a heart attack?💔
1.
Take a 2 minute break and read this:
Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.
2.
You are really tired and frustrated.
All of a sudden you have chest pains. They are starting to radiate in your arm and jaw. It feels like you’re being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.
3.
Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..
4.
Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.
5.
How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 SECONDS!! before losing consciousness.
6.
But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.
7.
Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs, and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. This is how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment.

Dr. Raymond L. Singer, MD, Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital, gives expert advice on keeping your heart healthy.

Experience matters. Second opinions matter. If you or someone you care about were told that they need coronary artery bypass or heart valve surgery, ask for a second opinion. If your doctor doesn’t want you to have a second opinion, then trust me, you’re in the wrong office!

I offer ALL of my patients second opinions and I will call any patient who wants a second opinion that very night, speak with them on the phone, and set them up for an office appointment that week!

How can I make that promise? Because I’ve been doing it this way for 33 years and nearly 8,000 surgeries! That’s experience you can trust!
